Auctioneers: How do they do it? I went to a land auction for the first time and I was fascinated by the? auctioneer. He sounded just like those old time tobacco auctioneers that used to be on the Lucky Strike commercials. He talked really really fast. What impressed me most is that he auctioneered for over five hours without a break and at the end he sounded exactly like he did when he started. He wasn't hoarse of raspy or any less loud and rapid-fire than when he started. Does he have stainless steel vocal cords or is there a technique (or drug) that enables him to do that? BTW I wasn't sure what category to put this question in; it doesn't really fit any of the normal categories.
Auctioneers are threatening to send my account to collections for default in completing the sale.? I bidded on an item on behalf of an Uncle (abroad) and he fails to to provide funds to complete the sale. The Auctioneers are threatening to send my account to collections for default in completing the sale. Do i have any remedy for avoiding being sent to collection? The item in question remains in the possession of the auctioneers. N.B: The condition/terms of auctioning does not mention collections but did mention a default penalty.
How do i obtain an auctioneers license in wales? i have looked all over the internet and i cant find an info on obtaining an auctioneers license.I am interested in starting some sort of auction house and i would have thought that you would need an auctioneers license, however i cant find any info on it for the uk. What percentage do auctioneers generally charge? I have spoken with an auctioneer about auctioning off a decent amount of household items and furniture. He quoted me 1/3 of the gross plus another $800 of my cut for advertising. He even mentioned that he might be bringing additional items here to auction off that would reduce the advertising costs but I would see none of that for in essence serving as his auction house. And he will be operating concessions here and it wasn't mentrioned that I would get a cut so I think it is fair to say I won't be seeing any of this money. Is this standard?
How much do real estate auctioneers get paid? If I were to run a real estate auction in the U.S., and took care of all marketing, the auction venue, registering people, closing the transaction, etc. and just needed to hire the person yelling "50, do I hear 50? 75? Going once..." - how much should that person be compensated? If I have a real estate license and I'm organizing the auction, does the auctioneer need a real estate license?
Why do online auctioneers PUSH paypal on bidders? I mean if the items you win turn out to be defective and auctioneer doesnt do refunds is PayPal an advantage to the auctioneer? I would much rather use my personal credit card for some kind of recourse to try to get a refund.
Why do auctioneers talk crazy like they do when doing live auctions? My only guess is it attempts to get the crowd riled up and more likely to make a rash bidding decision... but is that correct? WHY do they do it? Does anyone else do that? (Dodo you want some fries some fries salty fries with that going once going twice salty fries folks etc)
Why won't antique dealers, auctioneers or thrift stores take upholstered furniture and bedding? In trying to liquidate the contents of my parent's estate, I've been trying to sell the Victorian style furniture (couches, loveseats, chairs & beds). I've contacted several auction houses and antique dealers, but nobody wanted it. The Salvation Army and Goodwill do not accept upholstered furniture. I tried selling it at my garage sales, and no one even looks at it. I finally put it outside with a FREE sign and it still wasn't taken. It's a shame because I have some really nice antiques.
How can auctioneers justify taking almost 50% of the value of an antique, in commissions.? auctioneers will take 20% +vat from the vendor of a piece, and the same from the buyer, the buyer being mainly a dealer, would obviously give the vendor a much better deal, wanting to just make a nominal proffit, all auctioneers do not know what an item is really worth anyway, and only guess, based on previous sales, a dealer will know the difference, between good and bad. as his livelyhood depends on it. so why do vendors accept £50, for somthing a dealer has just paid £100, for.
Why do auctioneers speak the way they do? I understand that time is of the essence at auctions BUT, I was actually listening to them last night and picked up something he said frequently. "5000, starting bid, biddy, bum bid, jabbada jabbada 10, 000, I have 10000 umma gumm bumma." So now if the main reason is time......????why add in all that nonsense, why not just numbers? Someone please explain!
My dad was recently fired from Manheim Auctions. He was fired with 7 other auctioneers.? They were all fired from the company to save money. They did nothing wrong. Now, here's the catch. My dads uncle, Darryll Ceccoli, was the president of the company for many years. And he just passed away about 7 months ago. So, I am thinking about contacting someone at his auction and try to get him re-hired. I just need some opinions on what he should do.
why do auctioneers talk so fast? i mean, they act like the thing they are selling is gonna expire in 2 minutes...whats the need to rush and talk so fast for. im sure they can sell the things at the same price talking slowly.
auctioneers for old liquor? I have an original bottle of benedictine (D.O.M) from the 1800's. Still full with original wax seal and band. I know its worth quite abit but where do i go to get it looked at ? Or What autioneers deal with this type of product???
I'm looking for the rules Auctioneers must abide by in California? Specifically I was at a auction yesterday where they listed around 300 items for sale and most were to be auctioned off starting at $1 with no reserve, some items were 20,000 to 40,000$$$ and more, not all after about 80% they announced folks we are out of time and if anybody has any item they want that hasent been auctioned please mention it now to the manager. I wanted to see all items go and I was willing to wait, but was to embarassed as it was a auction of a friend of a friend and did not want to upset my friend, I politely asked a assistant manager before the auction was actually over and was told everybodys leaving and mr x is not goint to loose $100,000 to $200,000 thats why he is ending it early there wasnt enough money left or people to buy it all... My contention was if it was $1 with no reserver I would have bought up everything that was left... Was this legit to stop the auction early???
Is it worth it to hire an auctioneer? I have a couple thousand $ of vintage japanese kimonos/obis, as well as several antiques and collectibles. I can't have a garage sale (I live in an apartment), and ebay is so flooded with kimonos...they sell for a fraction of what they are worth. Is it worth it to deal with an auction house? What have your experiences been? Thank you.
Who do you report a dodgy auctioneer to? I know an auctioneer who regully shills his auctions , buys his clients items at the lowest posiible price (by not giving other people chance to bid) and even stealing items from other people lots. Who do I report this to? would it be trading standards and would they visit his auction to see it going on? any help appreciated.
What is the typical charge for an auctioneer for an estate sale? The departed's belongings (she had many!) will be inspected for value and then moved by the auctioneer to a community center. One auctioneer we considered charges a % fee, plus we/the customer pay for the hall ($160) plus advertising ($150 for the newspaper and internet). I am interested in others' experiences as far as what the appropiate/typical percentage split with the auctioneer should be. Or, if you are an auctioneer; pls let me know your % terms. Thanks!
Can a person have an auction on their own property without having licensed auctioneer? I don't want to use ebay as there is too much stuff and I don't have the time. I don't know the auctioneer garble & talk and the auction may not be big enough to justify hiring an auctioneer. It would require too much work just to have a garage/yard sale. A person doesn't make much money at such things and not everything sells as it does at an auction. What advice do you have?
