What online auction site is preferred by sellers of antiques & collectibles, and why? I've used eBay in the past for selling collectibles, but it seems that it's more than just the economy keeping buyers and sellers away. Did the fees get too greedy? Are people just not interested in collecting anymore? The good stuff doesn't seem to get listed much anymore. So....I was just wondering if there was another auction site to which the antique dealers have flocked.
Would anyone else enjoy a category for Antiques/Collectibles? Most such questions are posted under Society and Culture, but I would love to see them in a category of their own. Then, "Collectibles" would have several headings, for 'sport', 'transportation, 'antiques general', 'maritime', 'military', 'glass', 'coins', etc. I could see a problem with it generating classified ads, but that happens in other categories already. Hint--hint. Y!A staff notices questions with stars..
Does anyone know anything about antiques & collectibles? My mom had given me an antique mason/canning jar a long time ago, and I was wondering if it was worth anything. It says "Good Housekeepers Regular Mason" on it and it also says "St. Louis" on the bottom of it. I know that Ball Mason jars are a dime a dosen, but I've never seen a mason jar like this before and I haven't had any luck doing internet searches.
How do I need to find someone to price & sell my valuable Antiques, Glassware and collectibles for me? I have lots of STUFF I need to get rid of. LOTS of china cups and saucers, glassware, a collection of OLD TIN BOXES (tobacco, coffee tins) old perfume bottles, minature ceramic hinged boxes, old blank prestamped postage postcards,(1 cent 3 cent etc.) stamp collection, old milk bottles, old keys, old medicine bottles and tins, old scales, collection of old glass doorknobs, etc. etc. STUFF like that! I'm sure SOME is of it is, and some is PROBABLY just junk! BUT I don't know how to tell the difference. I've tried going on line, checking out e-bay, buying antique books, it's all too confusing! I need Someone KNOWLEDGEABLE about these things to come to my house,,sort it,document it, take it away, price it, and SELL it! W/O taking advantage of my ignorance and ripping me off. CAN YOU PLEASE ADVISE ME?

Can someone suggest a website or blog, where I can get in touch with writers on art, antiques, collectibles etc? Its for a art magazine coming out from India, which gives its readers current International news on art and culture, starting from details of forthcoming auctions, auction results, collectibles, jewellery, artist interviews and informative articles on art, antiques, collectibles, furniture, fashion etc. It also concentrates on trends in the art market, taking a close look at individual artist’s price-index as well as an informed low-down on the market trends prevalent during the months. The magazine is aimed at initiating the prospective investor/collector into the hitherto complex world of the art and collectibles market, as well as serving as a reference point for auction houses and galleries. ART news & views was conceptualized as a ready-reckoner for artists, connoisseurs, gallery owners, auction houses, collectors, investors and art enthusiasts. http://www.artnewsnviews.com/
How do I sell antiques collection? I inherited a large theatrical collection dating from 1850 which the V&A museum says is of inestimable value. I found museums in the UK & USA who are interested but I don't know how to market the collection or how to converse with these types of people.Auction dealers get toffee-nosed & only want to auction the Will-Look-Good-In-Our-Auction-Brochure Oil Painting, ignoring the collection as a whole. I have already been advised not to separate the collection. There are some items there which are famous. All I have to work with in my search is the internet - but the antiques & collectibles sites only deal with Beanies or thimbles or comic books, and so on. I have not found a really serious site where really serious people look for the stuff of museum collections. Before anyone gives the answer - the library is of no help whatsoever. Has anyone got a clue?
Is the antiques and collectibles market much worse than it was 30 years ago? I'm trying to liquidate my parent's estate. They had a Victorian house filled with all kind of antiques and collectibles - Depression and pressed glass, framed artwork, period furniture, etc. I don't want to use EBAY, a lot of the items are too fragile, too large, or too heavy to ship plus the hassle of packaging and shipping. I tried to contact estate liquidators and auctioneers, but nobody is interested unless the items are Sotheby's quality, and who has that laying around? Last autumn I put some stuff out for a yard sale and hardly anyone stopped. One dealer told me I could ask market value for the stuff and keep it or let it go for 10 cents on the dollar and sell it - it would depend on what was more important to me. Now I don't know if he was being honest or trying to scare me into giving him a good deal. I know what my parents paid for that stuff 30-35 years ago, and I'm not going to give it away, but I'd like to clean out the house for possible sale. Any ideas? Thanks. Not close at all. It wouldn't be worth the trip to you, I can tell you that much. I prefer to sell locally anyway. that why I don't use EBAY.
Where can I get free appraisals for antiques and other collectibles? I have inherited a house full of various antiques and probably more items that aren't true antiques, but more vintage and collectibles like Depression glass. I have joined several antique and collectible online message boards. At first I was getting feedback, but after a while, the other members stop responding to my posts, although I don't know the reason for that. I have hundreds of items I want evaluated as to age and value. Does anyone know of a Web site that does this, especially important is that it be a FREE service and the members won't get tired of my continuous postings?
When will Yahoo Answers get a freaking antiques section? I've been requesting this forever. People in the history section sometimes get annoyed at people asking about antiques and collectibles, or else those questions don't get many answers. Plus the questions get posted all over the place - like asking about vintage cameras in consumer electronics - it just doesn't fit!
How do you value collectibles that were broken by a serviceman? I can see the values in a book, but now my figurines will have glued heads and glued arms. Is there a percentage of the loss for antique collectibles when they are broken. I Need an approach for insurance reasons for the tradesman's insurance company.
How can I go about selling some antique/collectibles? I was given these minature sailboats and they came from an antique store. I want to sell them and I need to do it fast. I am not sure how much they are worth. I have already tried craigslist and I do not want to try ebay. I hate hassles. What else can I do? I have pictures of them.
If things are so bad you liberals, then why I am thriving on ebay selling antiques and collectibles? I am not talking about credit card sales here. I only accept cash and its equivalent forms ( i e, money orders / paypal ). People have money, you dorks! Sorry to burst your bubble, but the folks that are buying from me are from all walks of life, not just the rich! You people are so sad. You don't have any real answers, do ya? And for "sargeloda", these are not my family heirlooms. They are items I buy at yard sales and auctions, you ignoramus!
I have some antiques & collectibles, what is the best way to get a good price for them? I stopped into a store last August when it had become obvious the economy was in trouble. The store owner said no one was buying anything. This is in a conservative area though. I notice it has dried up in this area while other areas are booming....so I hope that is why that owner was so gloomy & it is not the case everywhere....I have an antique clock...chair,...some matchbox cars...old records, etc...Now I thought about getting a kid I know to put them on ebay...I thought I could pay the packaging costs & split it all with him. Is that the best way? What is the best way?
When is Yahoo Answers going to get an "Antiques and Collectibles" section? People have been asking for this for years. These kinds of questions get asked all over the place it would be so nice to have them in one section where people who are knowledgable about antiques can congregate to answer. It's been posted on the discussion board before and it never gets added. There are so many sections that are less useful than this section would be (like alternative science lol).
Would anyone buy my collectibles/antiques? The main problem is that I can't afford appraisals or to get things authenticated right now. Unless there is something cheaper that I don't know about. I have a bag of old signed baseballs that is not authenticated but I looked into what they would be worth and a couple of them could be worth possibly $500-700 but I can't read all the signatures. I have an absurd amount of baseball cards. I got a couple of old fencing swords from World War 1 but they are a bit rusty. I got some Japanese paintings that the guy giving them to me told me the artist was an upcoming artist from Japan and he thought they'd be worth something but he didn't have space for them but I can't figure out the signature. I also have signed photos of 1920's celebrities but I can't tell if they are authentic signatures unlike the baseballs which are clearly old signatures. Most of the stuff was given to me from either family or customers at my old junk job that would have me come over after work to take it.
looking to sell variety of collectibles and antiques without getting cheated.? I've been collecting for years and over time I've collected a wide variety of antiques from books to ceramics even jewelery, I really need to sell some of it since some hard times have hit home. I would like to know how to find buyers that will be fair with the prices. I'm not looking to get rich but I'm also not willing to let the stuff go for pennies. I've heard mixed feelings about ebay and would rather not go threw all that. Any suggestions or interests please contact me jonikins2000@yahoo.com THANKS 4 your time

How can I get my Antique and Collectible Club exposed to the most people? I formed the 31 Club to teach people about Antiques and Collectibles. To assist our members my book "31 Steps to your Millions in Antiques and Collectibles" is a free gift with each membership. Our website is www.31corp.com and each day I write a informative blog on Antiques and Collectibles that appears on the website. The Club has also established a market place where its members can buy and sell their items.
Info about antique flag collectibles from tea???? Please help!!? I just got these antique cloth flags collectibles that are about 2 inches by 1 inch at an antique auction. I was wondering if anyone new what tea they are from and maybe some info about them??? Thanks!! They are like ribbons!!
What is the best resource for determining the value of antiques? I have recently inherited a wide variety of collectible and keepsake items from my grandparents. Due to space and financial necessity, (single mother of three teenagers) it is necessary to choose wisely the items to pass on and what to part with. (items such as: comic books, WWII artillary, Occupied Japan, coins, postcards, tools etc.
I need a blueprint for a victorian chair to be given to my carpentar.? I want to get a Victorian Chair made for my living room. Looking to make a couple of chairs to occupy on wall of my living room, so they need to be large. I need a blue print (ok for it not to be very detailed as long as the basic frame dimensions are there) which my carpenter can use. I am looking for a chair like this - http://images.google.co.in/imgres?imgurl=http://www.aw-antiques-collectibles.co.uk/images/furniture/victorian-chair-1.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.aw-antiques-collectibles.co.uk/&h=359&w=240&sz=23&tbnid=uMHkxgED29aF0M:&tbnh=121&tbnw=81&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dvictorian%2Bchair&start=1&sa=X&oi=images&ct=image&cd=1
Have you ever had an antique/collectible appraiser come to your home? Have heard they can cost around $200, do a walk-through and you should have everything out to see. I don't really know where to start in picking one, except the phone book. I also know that if they offer to buy anything, they should be told to leave, and that this is unethical. I love details--Thanks!! ;-)
American and FOREIGN antiques? Are there any antique traders (not necessarily dealers) who have bought and sold antiques and collectibles cross border. Like finding an antique located in Canada (or other countries), and because of the exchange rate buy it for a good deal. And then re-sold it in the USA for a profit? Thanks
do you know where to go for collectible antique pieces? I have so many pieces of all variety of things. Enough to open a small store. But my problem is that i can't take it to one place to have them appraised. So i need a web page that I can give the description and get info on their worth. Any Ideas?
