Ebay Live Auction Antiques Knowledge Base

How do I make money from live auctions and Ebay? I have some time on my hands this summer and a few bucks. I started frequenting live auctions to see how things work. I have no history with antiques (other typical auction items) and knowing how to value them but I do enjoy learning about it. My goal is to find items that sell low at live auctions to resell at a higher value online. I'm using auctionzip.com to preview live auction items and compare them to what is actually selling on ebay and for how much. Any tips on how I can do what I'm doing any better? Thanks
selling on ebay can this work? ive been thinking on selling on ebay if i would like too buy things on a pawn shop and then selling them on ebay could that work They sell some stuff cheap and could make profit out of that and also here where i live they have auctions they have many many antiques being sold here and i see people buyint them for high prices but i heard those people are reselling it on the internet even if i dont know anything of antiques and buy the antiques in the auction and sell it on ebay could that work and make profit
EBay advice? My husband and I are wanting to sell a few things on Ebay: 1) A buffet Clarinet worth around $800-$100 2) An Artley student Clarinet worth between $200-$400 3) A fondue set, including chocolates, cookbook, and other related items worth over $200, but we're going to be looking for $30. 4) An antique coffee grinder, worth between $95-$150 Now, here's the deal: the last few times I've tried to sell items on Ebay, I've failed. I know it's just like a live auction and all depends on who is looking for what when. I understand that. What tricks can I use to become more successful? If I recall correctly, usually it's better to list items after 10:00 PM CST, but that may be something that I misunderstood. ANY advice would be great. I know not to expect TOO much, but one time I told a $300 Renassiance costume for $5. Obviously I don't have the talent I thought I had!
Where is a good place to buy vintage cameras, other than ebay? So I have just gotten fed up with ebay snipers outbidding me at the last second. I refuse to use the sniping program because it is unfair. I love old cameras and love collecting them, not so much for the dollar value but because I enjoy looking at them and using them. I live on an island where there really aren't any antique stores or thrift stores. I often browse Shopgoodwill.com and Keh.com. Where else online can I find a place that sells or auctions vintage cameras?
Is it worth it to hire an auctioneer? I have a couple thousand $ of vintage japanese kimonos/obis, as well as several antiques and collectibles. I can't have a garage sale (I live in an apartment), and ebay is so flooded with kimonos...they sell for a fraction of what they are worth. Is it worth it to deal with an auction house? What have your experiences been? Thank you.
Why do people overspend (IMHO) on eBay? I've been looking at iPod shuffles, the new ones that are teeny tiny OMG I can't find it it's that small. On eBay they're going for more than the price Apple is charging. I've seen this with other items as well that are not hard to find in stores. I know everyone does not live near a mall, but what gives? Is there something about eBay that makes people not research the things they want to buy before they buy items that are readily available (as opposed to antiques, hard to find items, collectibles)? I'm not knocking eBay, or the buyers and sellers - I've held some very successful auctions in the past, but it is strange to see what people are paying for stuff that they can go out and buy at the store without the extra fees, seller identity, etc. Anyone out there have the experience where it was worth it to pay the extra $ for something on eBay that also was in the stores? Was it a time or a easier to buy online situation? Serious answers please.
Ebay-ing for vintage saddles? Ever the saddle junkie, I've been stalking ebay for vintage plantation saddles. I've found three that look pretty promising, worthy of restoration. Not that I need yet another saddle but I really hate to let a sweet deal slip through my fingers. This isn't a genuine Buena Vista as advertised, it's a repro that's stamped "Genuine Buena Vista" (as they all are). Still, it's in good shape, and not too bad a deal if it could be snipered close to that $100 starting bid. It's most definitely an older model probably from the 1930's. The fact that it bears the hard sling seat design as opposed to being quilted and has the original hooded wooden bell stirrups + english rigging make it pretty easy to date. Overall I like, but I dunno if I like is as much as the other two. http://cgi.ebay.com/VINTAGE-PLANTATION-SADDLE-GENUINE-BUENAVISTA-/260784938875?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cb7fe5f7b This one I definitely won't bid on on this auction but I'm sure it will pop back up since there are no bids. It's most definitely not an original, the seat is in too good of condition and it's western rigged. It's got the suspended quilted seat which I LOVE though. Hopefully they lower the reserve next time they list it then I may toss out a bid. http://cgi.ebay.com/Buena-Vista-Saddle-/180666088078?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2a1089ba8e Now this third one is a saddle after my heart. Is it a Minihan? Maybe. More likely an Applegate with that style of stitching in the seat. It's most definitely the real deal though, a late 1800's Minihan-style saddle. I'd venture to guess that it's a true spring seat too- my all-time favorite. I honestly don't think I'd replace a thing on it except the rigging and maybe the irons since I have an original set sitting on another Minihan not currently in use. I'd just love to have that on display in the living room and take it out for the occasional ride. Bidding on that one could get pretty high though, especially if the tree is in usable condition. http://cgi.ebay.com/ANTIQUE-PLANTATION-SADDLE-/290566551745?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item43a71db8c1 Which one would you go after? Or, for those of you that know my proclivity for saddle-collecting do you think I should just keep my butt off ebay? Meh, I wouldn't be buying any of them as a main riding saddle. If it's sound for riding great, if it's worth restoring great, if it just adds to the hoard of really kewl old saddles I have I'm down with that too. I love my saddle hoard and love adding to it. I've got some really neat conversation pieces in my pile-o-saddles. Lol Victoria. He's not currently bidding on any saddles, but we do check with each other before we bid on horse items since the great vintage bridle rosette debacle. We've definitely got the same taste in tack almost to the point it's scary. @ Victoria- I bought an all-original Minihan a few weeks ago off craigslist! It's a true Minihan, even still has the Minihan stamp on it! LOVE LOVE LOVE it and it's still ride-able, although it would need some work before it's ready for any serious riding.
