Antique Chinese or Japanese Robe....How can I find out if it's worth anything? Hi Guys I wonder if you can help at all. I have an antique Robe which I thought I would try & evaluate. I'm not actually sure if it's of Chinese origin or Japanese. I've tried researching on the Internet to find out more about it but haven't come up with much....I wondered if maybe anyone knows of any good sites that I could search out in order to find out more about it. It's a long shot I know but it would be a start. I've also browsed ebay through their antiques section but they have nothing in comparison so I couldn't compare it to anything. Any help would be really appreciated Thanks for taking the time to read this. ♥

How to dechipher Chinese(?) Writing on antique water buffalo opium pipe? While traveling in Laos I purchased from a street vendor an antique pipe made from the horn of a water buffalo. It is intricately carved and has what looks like Chinese writing on it. I believe that this was once used as an opium pipe. I have asked native Chinese freinds to translate, but they tell me that the characters are old and not known to them. Are there resources that can look at an image of the writing and translate it for me?

Where Should I Go For Antique Appraisals? Hi, I live in San Antonio, TX. I have a antique Chinese porcelain at home that I would like it to be appraised, but I do not know where to go. Should I go to a local antique store to get appraisals or are they not to be trusted? Where should I go? I am afraid I would get ripped off by one of them.
How can I tell if my folding fan is Japanese or Chinese? Is it authentic? I recently purchased a folding fan, still in box, from a thrift store. The box itself has a sticker on the front and one on the side, but the characters are of an Oriental language. So, I can't read them. Once fully opened, the scene on the fan itself is of 2 koi-fish, or carp(I'm not sure which), and there is also what appears to be some kind of trademark stamped on it, with some characters written out next to it. The scene is beautifully done, whether printed on or painted. There are 19 ribs, including the wider ribs on either end, that look to be bamboo, and they are painted or varnished in a lovely dark color. I can't tell whether or not this is an authentic hand-crafted piece, or if it is just your run-of-the-mill mass-produced tourist souvenier. I'd love to know, whether or not it's authentic, and perhaps if it is, whether or not it's an antique. Thanks so much! :)
What is the process of reupholstering furniture (e.g. sofas and chairs)? We own Chinese antique-styled teak furniture finished with green silk. Over the years, the silk has gotten worn in places. Who does one approach for an upholstery job? How much would one expect to pay (ballpark, obviously) for reupholstering a sofa, two chairs, and two ottomans if using silk? Thank you for your time.

Does anyone know? A good site to do research on Chinese antiques. I have two chests that I inherited, and I know nothing about them. One is a bamboo chest with two front glass doors that's about 200 yrs old. And the other is a black laquer chest with geisha on the front, and birds on the sides. I don't know anything about their history, and I'd like to find a site that could help me find out more.
Cursed?????Today I got my purchased from ebay - a hand bone carved chinese monkey snuff bottle? And I eagerly got it out of the box and there is nothing wrong with it but it does not feel nice. I dont know what it is but I had the urge to put it outside in its box. It just does not have a friendly feel - can things be cursed and if it does not feel right is there something I can do - like wash it in green tea or something??? Its supposed to be an antique but its just got this vibe .....Has anyone else had a similar experience. I am disappointed now, could you offer any ideas??
English to Chinese translation helP! 10 Points!!? please translate this to chinese. Thanks. In Jakarta, using public transportation is strongly discouraged, because it is both inconvinient and dangerous. Indonesia is well known for its skillful pickpockets. They can steal your pouch in a split of second. The situation becomes worse if you are a Chinese, because there is still a sentimental discrimination for the Chinese. So, always be alert. You can find souvenirs like T-Shirts, antiques, and postcards in almost every tourism sites in Jakarta. They are usually sold in small stalls by hawkers. Sometimes the hawkers set an unreasonably high price because they expect you to bargain. So, good bargaining skill is a must. Things in Jakarta is relatively cheap, especially if compared to Singapore. One Singapore Dollar is equivalent to approximately 6500 Rupiahs. You see the picture over there, it is a local snack called tempe. It is my favourite food.It is made from beans.
