What do you guys have against the Department of Defense opening its contracts to competitive bidding? Try doing a Google News search for "No Bid Contract". What do you think of the Dems Earmark Reform? Earmarks are proposed to be: 1) Public - put on the website and invovled in hearings 2) Competitive Bidding 3) Must have 'legitimate' purpose or Obama will work to eliminate it 4) The name and amount of the sponser must be identified in the earmark He did this in reaction to charges that the bill from last year had too many earmarks in it. Why didn't the Republicans reform earmarks if they are so against them now?
Why aren't contractors more aggressive in this down economy? We are looking to do $75-100k of work on our house, we've saved the cash over the years and assumed that now would be a good time to do it, in order to get a good price. But most contractors are still being very slow and unagressive in terms of their quotes. We'll get a competitive bidding situation and eventually get a favorable price, but why wouldn't a contractor have an incentive to try to quote it aggressively, close the deal, keep his people working?
What is YOUR solution for the unethical conduct from both parties in the congress? Murtha is called "King Corruption" by Republican reformers, but what happened after midnight Aug. 5 is not a party matter. Democrats and Republicans, as always, locked arms supporting every earmark. Buying a specific car; Is this a prudent way of getting the best deal? My wife and I are going to be buying a used car. We're determined to get a Crystler Pacifica, but we don't care about the year. It's more important about the mileage, as the years are too similair to matter. Also, trim matters very little. So, we found a few models in town, of comparable condition, and plan to email the dealers with the year, mileage, trim, and sticker price of the other models. We're keeping the dealers' name and e-mail confidential, and asking them to quote a competitive bid. Should I expect them to cooperate, or get pissed off and not bid? Please either be either a car dealer, or experienced in purchasing a car yourself to answer. Here is the e-mail I plan to send them... My wife and I stopped by your lot yesterday to inquire about your Chrysler Pacifica. We also visited several other lots in Corpus Christi and found a few comparable models. We’ve become very set on getting this particular vehicle, and have received the “okay” from my wife’s trust company to purchase one of the four vehicles we looked at. Unfortunately, it is up to the trust company which one of the four they will pay for, which puts us in this situation. If you’re receiving this e-mail, I was very pleased with the overall condition of the car and service that you have extended to us so far. We’ve visited every used dealership in town, and there are many that I would not recommend, and am choosing not to do business with. Since we like this car so much, we spent nearly an hour over the phone convincing them to extend our limit from $10,000 to match the best deal we can get. Since I know that every dealership works differently in pricing, I’ve asked them to give us the chance to give you the opportunity for this sale. The conditions they will be looking at (in order of importance) are Price, then mileage, with little emphasis on year and attributes. Of course they understand that a model with fewer miles may cost more, but will still be a good investment. To give you an idea of the competition, I’ve included some information about the other vehicles. I hope that you are able to place a competitive bid, and I truly appreciate the open friendliness that I’ve experienced while at your dealership. I've actually seen these cars personaly, and I did give them my number and e-mail (just excluded them from the post, of course) They are all pretty much the same as far as visible condition

Why did Neil Budde cut one of the main discussion outlets for many people who disapproval of little man bush? I am not Republican, Democrat or Independent. I just don't understand why the nation allowed little man bush in illegally invade two nations and destroy the infrastructure, murder maim hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians and thousands of American soldiers, wreck havoc on the soldier's families and lives, allow for the imprisonment and torture of countless others, lie to, cover-up and manipulate the American people, illegally allow the non-competitive bidding of military contracts, and waste hundreds of billions of dollars of our money. I am angry at this screwball, the Americans elected into office. He is an evil man. He should be impeached and sent to the Hague to stand trial for all the above mentioned crimes and then some. He can sit next to all the other war criminals rot there for the rest of his life. It seems you, Mr Neil Budde, have cut off one of the only outlets to express our feelings. Kind of like the expression, "Cut off your nose to spite your face. Good luck
Ebay, Bidding Process.? Let's say the Max Bid is at $35 for a game. If I put my max bid as $10,000, then no one could, or would, bid over me. because then they'd have to pay at least $10,000. so i won. i'm sure its not as simple as this; tell me what's wrong with ↑ (i'm new to ebay. i need to understand the process before diving into the competitive nature of bidding.) Thanks! I understand that i pay for what i bid. but just now, i put my max bid at $35 on a $31 bid. the bid rose to $32. if i put $10,000 for a $35 item, the bid would only rise to $36, no? and then, no one could bid over me, because they must bid more than $10,000 which no one wants to do. i know this is badly worded; im sorry.

No need to go to D.C. or the state capital. 2. Not viewed as a lucrative job; just part time to the will of the people. Perform your duties voluntarily, without a formal salary, and without pension. Have no agenda except to do the will (constitutionally valid bills) of the majority of active constituents within your district. Those constituents opting to not participate have no standing in all matters. 4. Everybody (constituents/servant) uses state of the art communications technology (including websites) to achieve all of the above in a fully transparent manner. Constituents must register using their drivers license. Secure, validated electronic voting is already standard in D.C. 5. Using this model, can undue influence from corporate, lobbyists, and special interests groups be severely limited to ineffective?

By how much do I adjust salary cap in yahoo fantasy baseball to account for fewer players? In a normal twelve team league, the cap is defaulted to $260. If I've only got ten teams, but I want the bidding process to still be competitive, I'd need to raise the cap. This would allow the teams to compete over the highest ranked players in the same way as if there were still twelve teams. This assumes a normal 5x5 full-MLB universe. How much should I raise the cap? What about if there were only eight teams?

I have had Truegreen doing my lawn for several years. It started out at 4 visits a year and now....? I have had Truegreen doing my lawn for several years. It started out at 4 visits a year and now they are constantly coming out. My bill has gone from about 150 to about 350. They do all the things they say they are going to do but I want an opinion about just how much is needed for my very nice lawn. What companies should I look to for competitive bids and opinions about what is needed? I live in Oakland County, Michigan - north of Detroit. One of the reasons I decided to leave them was their pestering me - constantly calling to confirm that I am happy; dunning me by phone if a bill got very old at all (30 days and a call was made instead of a friendly reminder). A few years ago, tried to get rid of them and they convinced my wife to start up. Told them not to do that this time.

Should eBay block "sniper" bidding? Many people reckon that "sniper" bidding on eBay is fundamentally and anti-competitive practice that harms sellers by not allowing an item to realize it's true market value, and harms buyers by creating an uneven playing field. Any auction process should be open, transparent and fair to all. Any practice (or technology) that defeats this should be discouraged and prevented.

Murtha shows appetite for pork - Why does he waste taxpayer money? Is this what we are looking for in our leaders? Critics say Mr. Murtha, 75, is squandering taxpayer money, giving away federal dollars to handpicked businesses and projects without competitive bids or independent oversight. Are you dems complaining about Haliburten getting contracts without bids? Funny how you pick up on that but ignore one of your leaders that do it every day. What a bunch of hypocrites! http://www.washingtontimes.com/article/20070905/NATION/109040070/1001 Pink Angel - Did you not read the article? Murtha has given no bid contracts to people. How is that any different than Halliburton? Dollar value does not matter, it should have been a competitive bid. Halliburton is very specialized in what it does in the middle east and no other company provides the service. Therefore they get a no bid contract.
How is the passage below Economics related? Why? "World Bank offers PPP financing options" Recognizing the Philippines Public-Private Partnership (PPP) expansion’s potential to resolve the country’s challenges including infrastructure development and poverty reduction, the World Bank has identified a variety of financing options and strategies that the government can avail of to propel such initiative. Bert Hofman, World Bank Country Director, said public-private participation in infrastructure development not only fills a critical financing gap for the government, but also improves the delivery of services. “PPP has clear linkages to the country’s competitiveness and prospects for sustained growth,” Hofman said, after citing business leaders’ sentiments that the overall quality of infrastructure service delivery in the Philippines remains a concern and has emerged as a key impediment to the country’s economic competitiveness. “We are prepared to work with the government in some important areas for accelerating the PPP program,” Hofman said at the conference organized by the government as a forum with the private sector and development partners in evaluating investment opportunities, profiles of PPP projects, as well as policy, regulatory, and legal issues concerning the infrastructure sector. Hofman added that the World Bank welcomes the government's plans presented at the conference, with emphasis on transparency and competitive processes in project selection and bidding. "It's encouraging to see that the government is putting considerable resources into bringing bankable projects to the market," he said. The conference is a follow-up to President Aquino’s recent executive order that created a PPP Center of the Philippines. The new agency is expected to spur the implementation of PPP programs by seeking ways to accelerate the financing, construction, and operation of key infrastructure projects. Hofman listed a number of World Bank financing products and services that the Philippines could tap to accelerate PPP projects. For instance, while the bank offers 30-year loans to middle-income countries with repayment schedules that address specific needs of projects, such loans can also be blended with private finance to cut amortization costs and ease pressures to shore up tariffs to make projects viable. “The use of such hybrid schemes is becoming more and more common in an effort to reduce the total cost of financing for poor communities,” Hofman said.

Should non-union contractors be allowed to bid on construction and repair work associated with public schools? By allowing non-union subcontractors to bid on construction and repair projects associated with public schools, the bidding becomes more competitive -- thus lowering prices. In some states, however, only union shops are allowed to bid. At a time of burgeoning budget deficits, should right to work statutes apply to public school related contracts?

Why did Obama break his promise of ending 'no-bid' contracts, after criticizing Bush for it? "Will ensure that federal contracts over $25,000 are competitively bid." -Obama Based on the stream of guidance flowing from the OMB and White House to the federal agencies, it seems clear to us the administration does not plan to fulfill the president's promise of requiring competitive bids for every contract worth more than $25,000. And neither the OMB nor the White House disputes this, emphasizing instead their effort to encourage competitive bidding wherever possible. "It is the policy of the federal government that executive agencies shall not engage in noncompetitive contracts except in those circumstances where their use can be fully justified and where appropriate safeguards have been put in place to protect the taxpayer,” the OMB said in a statement to PolitiFact. An e-mail from White House spokeswoman Kate Bedingfield and OMB spokesman Ken Baer said the president has directed agencies to cut so-called "high-risk contracting authorities," which include no-bid contracts, by 10 percent this year alone. "Improving federal contracting and ensuring that our taxpayer dollars are spent well are top priorities," their e-mail said. "The President has charged federal departments and agencies with saving $40 billion annually by Fiscal Year (FY) 2011 through terminating unnecessary contracts, strengthening acquisition management, ending the overreliance on contractors, and reducing the use of high-risk contracts across government. The government’s major contracting agencies – which account for more than 98 percent of contract spending – are on track to meet this goal, identifying more than $19 billion of savings for the first year of this reform effort."
why did 0bama grant a no bid DOD contract to a company whos owner donated to his campaign? As a candidate for president in 2008, Obama, then a senator, frequently derided the Bush administration for the awarding of federal contracts without competitive bidding. Less than two months after he was sworn into office, President Obama signed a memorandum that he claimed would "dramatically reform the way we do business on contracts across the entire government." Federal campaign records show Checchi has been a frequent contributor to liberal and Democratic causes and candidates in recent years, including to Obama's presidential campaign. The records show Checchi has given at least $4,400 to Obama dating back to March 2007, close to the maximum amount allowed. Click here to read the contract award.

Wow...are you surprised Bush opposes mandatory emmission cuts? WASHINGTON - The United States is lining up with China, India and the world's other biggest polluters in opposition to mandatory cuts in Earth-warming greenhouse gases sought by the United Nations and European countries. lol.....Has there ever been such an ideological perfect president as the one in office now? And he does support spending freely without restraint..and cutting taxes for the rich and essentially cutting government revenue....and hey he does believe in borrowing heavily to make up the diff. And he does believe in bailing out lenders who made bad ill advised predatory mortgage loans so they dont lose their shirt.
Jeb Bush's former partner builds faulty pumps that were installed in NOLA, how much more will it take? The Army Corps of Engineers, rushing to meet President bush's promise to protect New Orleans by the start of the 2006 hurricane season, installed defective flood-control pumps last year despite warnings from its own expert that the equipment would fail during a storm, according to documents obtained by The Associated Press. The drainage-canal pumps were custom-designed and built under a $26.6 million contract awarded after competitive bidding to Moving Water Industries Corp. of Deerfield Beach, Fla. It was founded in 1926 and supplies flood-control and irrigation pumps all over the world. MWI is owned by J. David Eller and his sons. Eller was once a business partner of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush in a venture called Bush-El that marketed MWI pumps. And Eller has donated about $128,000 to politicians, the vast majority of it to the Republican Party, since 1996, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. sick of it yet? You're more worried about al gore than the billions of dollars the bush's and their cronies havr stolen? You're a bigger threat than any terrotist I mean terrorist
A neo conservatives hero exposed? Limbaugh vs. Reality Bogus Economics LIMBAUGH: On California contractor C.C. Myers completing repairs 74 days early on the earthquake-damaged Santa Monica Freeway: "There was one key element that made this happen. One key thing: The governor of California declared the [freeway] a disaster area and by so doing eliminated the need for competitive bids.... Government got the hell out of the way." (TV show, 4/13/94) "They gave this guy [Myers] the job without having to go through the rigmarole...of giving 25 percent of the job to a minority-owned business and 25 percent to a woman." (TV show, 4/15/94) REALITY: There was competitive bidding: Myers beat four other contractors for the job. Affirmative action rules applied: At least 40 percent of the subcontracts went to minority or women-owned firms. Far from getting out of the way, dozens of state employees were on the job 24 hours a day. Furthermore, the federal government picked up the tab for the whole job (L.A. Times, 5/1/94). LIMBAUGH: "Banks take the risks in issuing student loans and they are entitled to the profits." (Radio show, quoted in FRQ, Summer/93) REALITY: Banks take no risks in issuing student loans, which are federally insured. LIMBAUGH: "Don't let the liberals deceive you into believing that a decade of sustained growth without inflation in America [in the '80s] resulted in a bigger gap between the haves and the have-nots. Figures compiled by the Congressional Budget Office dispel that myth." (Ought to Be, p. 70) REALITY: CBO figures do nothing of the sort. Its numbers for after-tax incomes show that in 1980, the richest fifth of our country had eight times the income of the poorest fifth. By 1989, the ratio was more than 20 to one. LIMBAUGH: Comparing the 1950s with the present: "And I might point out that poverty and economic disparities between the lower and upper classes were greater during the former period." (Told You So, p. 84) REALITY: Income inequality, as measured by the U.S. Census Bureau, fell from the 1940s to the late 1960s, and then began rising. Inequality surpassed the 1950 level in 1982 and rose steadily to all-time highs in 1992. (Census Bureau's "Money Income of Households, Families and Persons in the United States") LIMBAUGH: "Oh, how they relished blaming Reagan administration policies, including the mythical reductions in HUD's budget for public housing, for creating all of the homeless! Budget cuts? There were no budget cuts! The budget figures show that actual construction of public housing increased during the Reagan years." (Ought to Be, p. 242-243) REALITY: In 1980, 20,900 low-income public housing units were under construction; in 1988, 9,700, a decline of 54 percent ;Statistical Abstracts of the U.S).In terms of 1993 dollars, the HUD budget for the construction of new public housing was slashed from $6.3 billion in 1980 to $683 million in 1988. "We're getting out of the housing business. Period," a Reagan HUD official declared in 1985. LIMBAUGH: "The poorest people in America are better off than the mainstream families of Europe." (Radio show, quoted in FRQ, Spring/93) REALITY: Huh? The average cash income of the poorest 20 percent of Americans is $5,226; the average cash income of four major European nations--Germany, France, United Kingdom and Italy--is $19,708. LIMBAUGH: "There's no such thing as an implied contract." (Radio show, quoted in FRQ, Spring/93) REALITY: Every first year law student knows there is. LIMBAUGH: "Ladies and gentlemen, we now know why there is this institutional opposition to low tax rates in the liberal wing of the Democratic Party. It's because [low tax rates] are biblical in nature and in root. When you can trace the lowering of tax rates on grain from 90 percent to 20 percent giving seven fat years during the days of Pharaoh in Egypt, why then you are tracing the roots of lower taxes and rising prosperity to religion.... You can trace individual prosperity, economic growth back to the Bible, the Old Testament. Isn't it amazing?" (Radio show, 6/28/93) REALITY: Amazingly wrong. Genesis 41 is about the wisdom of instituting taxes, not cutting them. After Pharaoh had a dream that prophesied seven fat years to be followed by seven lean years, Joseph advised him to "appoint officers over the land, and take up the fifth part of the land of Egypt in the seven plenteous years...and lay up corn under the hands of Pharaoh." In other words, a 20 percent tax on the grain harvest would put aside food for use during the famine. Pharaoh took Joseph's advice, and Egypt avoided hunger during the famine. Weird Science LIMBAUGH: "It has not been proven that nicotine is addictive, the same with cigarettes causing emphysema [and other diseases]." (Radio show, 4/29/94) REALITY: Nicotine's addictiveness has been reported in medical literature since the turn of the century. Surgeon General C. Everett Koop's 1988 report on nicotine addiction left no doubts on the subject; "Today the scientific base linking smoking to a number of chronic diseases is overwhelming, with a total of 50,000 studies from dozens of countries," states Encyclopedia Britannica's 1987 "Medical and Health Annual." LIMBAUGH: "We closed down a whole town--Times Beach, Mo.--over the threat of dioxin. We now know there was no reason to do that. Dioxin at those levels isn't harmful." (Ought to Be, p. 163) REALITY: "The hypothesis that low exposures [to dioxin] are entirely safe for humans is distinctly less tenable now than before," editorialized the New England Journal of Medicine after publishing a study (1/24/91) on cancer mortality and dioxin. In 1993, after Limbaugh's book was written, a study of residents in Seveso, Italy had increased cancer rates after being exposed to dioxin, The EPA's director of environmental toxicology said this study removed one of the last remaining doubts about dioxin's deadly effects (AP, 8/29/93). LIMBAUGH: "The worst of all of this is the lie that condoms really protect against AIDS. The condom failure rate can be as high as 20 percent. Would you get on a plane -- or put your children on a plane -- if one of five passengers would be killed on the flight? Well, the statistic holds for condoms, folks." (Ought to Be, p. 135) REALITY: A one in five AIDS risk for condom users? Not true, according to Dr. Joseph Kelaghan, who evaluates contraceptives for the National Institutes of Health. "There is substantive evidence that condoms prevent transmission if used consistently and properly," he said. He pointed to a nearly two-year study of couples in which one partner was HIV-positive. Among the 123 couples who used condoms regularly, there wasn't a single new infection (AP, 8/29/93). LIMBAUGH: "Most Canadian physicians who are themselves in need of surgery, for example, scurry across the border to get it done right: the American way. They have found, through experience, that state medical care is too expensive, too slow and inefficient, and, most important, it doesn't provide adequate care for most people." (Told You So, p. 153) REALITY: "Mr. Limbaugh's claim simply isn't true," says Dr. Hugh Scully, chair of the Canadian Medical Association's Council on Healing and Finance. "The vast majority of Canadians, including physicians, receive their care here in Canada. Those few Canadians who receive health care in the U.S. most often do because they have winter homes in the States--like Arizona and Florida--and have emergent health problems there." Medical care in Canada is hardly "too expensive"; it's provided free and covered by taxes.
Can McCain remain competitive if his fund-raising problems continues? If money is the mother's milk of politics, then Senator John McCain seems intent on going on a hunger strike. Barack Obama has proved to be the most effective fund-raiser in the history of American politics, at a time when McCain seems to be doing all he can to make sure that he cannot raise enough in campaign contributions to stay competitive. If Senator McCain fails in his bid for the presidency, more than any other candidate in recent memory he will well and truly have been hoist on his own petard. His McCain-Feingold law deprives him of the resources he might raise from well-heeled individual donors -- including his remarkably wealthy wife, Cindy, who is as incapable today as Theresa Heinz Kerry had been four years ago of financially supporting her candidate husband. However, it's not too late for Senator McCain to recognize what he's done to himself, as well as how he can turn this around. Great link: Historians think that based on previous elections, Barack Obama will trounce John McCain. When you look at factors like winning the White House three times in a row, the state of the economy, the popularity of the incumbent President, and other factors, all signs point to a Democratic landslide. Politico has the story.
I would like to know where I could get information, on how a company can help me go to school.? I work for a scaffolding business and have been asked to find information on how they can help me, in going to school. I need information on the type of degree I could obtain that would help me and the company in our field. Currently I am in sales for the company. My other duties are to make sure my orders go out and have the correct amount of material being shipped and the correct material, so I have to know the different types of material, their sizes, weight, and how to evenly perportion them on a flat bed or a freight carrier. Apart from that I have to know how to use the material and set it up. The different companies I sell to are all types of construction, drywall, plaster, stucco companies or anyone that is in need of scaffolding. I also have to be very competitive and know how to bid for jobs and be able to offer the best that we have.
Is the salary cap good for Canada? Since salaries and revenue are more under control, does this open the door for Canadian cities to bid for NHL franchises? Small market teams are competitive once again. Now that team payrolls have been curbed, why aren't markets north of the border pushing harder to get teams, or get a team back? I get that Betteman wants to grow the fan base, but why starve the places where hockey is king? The Devils were recently 3,500 short of a sell out for a playoff game!!! That would never happen in Winnipeg or Quebec. It wouldn't even happen in Hartford!
Why does the U.S. government allow no-bid contracts and should we continue them.? I'm sorry that I don't have the source for this, but I believe that Halliburton was awarded a no-bid contract for their services in Iraq. Why does the federal government allow no-bid contracts and should they be continued? Is there any advantage to allowing a no-bid contract? If so, how does it help the American people by allowing a no-bid contract? I'll give the ten points to the best answer which gives a valid reason why we should continue allowing no-bid contracts. (For those who don't know what a no-bid contract is, I believe it is when the government a contract to an individual or group/company without considering competitive bids). Thank you, Jose R for supplying the citation on Halliburton's no bid contract! There are about 4 excellent answers below. I can't decide which answer is the best, so I'm going to send this to the voters to make the decision. Excellent answers follow. NOTE TO VOTERS: please pick the answer that best explains why we use no-bid contracts rather than the one that best describes your thoughts on this issue, please!

Seems Bush isn't the one making Iraq war money, can Dems answer this? War profiteer. http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=54932 Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., has abruptly walked away from her responsibilities with the Senate Military Construction Appropriations Subcommittee after a report linked her votes to the financial well-being of her husband's companies, which received billions of dollars worth of military construction contracts she approved. "Feinstein abandoned MILCON as her ethical problems were surfacing in the media, and as it was becoming clear that her subcommittee left grievously wounded veterans to rot while her family was profiting from the occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan. It turns out that Blum also holds large investments in companies that were selling medical equipment and supplies and real estate leases – often without the benefit of competitive bidding – to the Department of Veterans Affairs, even as the system of medical care for veterans collapsed on his wife's watch," he wrote.
plz answer!!!! question about purchasing? Which one of the following statements about purchasing is true? * The cost of purchases as a percent of sales is often small * Purchasing provides a major opportunity for price increases * Purchasing is always more efficient than making an item * Purchasing has an impact on the quality of the goods and services sold * Competitive bidding is a major factor in long-term cost reductions
i need help with this please!!!!? why would an organizational buyer want to get competition bids?? what are some of the situations when competitive bidding can't be used???
With all the "investigations" and blame.. why is there no news about Diane Feinstein resigning her position? SEN. Dianne Feinstein has resigned from the Military Construction Appropriations subcommittee. As MILCON leader, Feinstein relished the details of military construction, even micromanaging one project at the level of its sewer design. She regularly took junkets to military bases around the world to inspect construction projects, some of which were contracted to her husband's companies, Perini Corp. and URS Corp. The MILCON subcommittee is not only in charge of supervising military construction, it also oversees "quality of life" issues for veterans, which includes building housing for military families and operating hospitals and clinics for wounded soldiers. Perhaps Feinstein is trying to disassociate herself from MILCON's incredible failure to provide decent medical care for wounded soldiers. Two years ago, before the Washington Post became belatedly involved, the online magazine Salon.com exposed the horrors of deficient medical care for Iraq war veterans. While leading While leading MILCON, Feinstein had ample warning of the medical-care meltdown. But she was not proactive on veteran's affairs. Feinstein abandoned MILCON as her ethical problems were surfacing in the media, and as it was becoming clear that her subcommittee left grievously wounded veterans to rot while her family was profiting from the occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan. It turns out that Blum also holds large investments in companies that were selling medical equipment and supplies and real estate leases—often without the benefit of competitive bidding—to the Department of Veterans Affairs, even as the system of medical care for veterans collapsed on his wife's watch. As of December 2006, according to SEC filings and www.fedspending.org, three corporations in which Blum's financial entities own a total of $1 billion in stock won considerable favor from the budgets of the Department of Defense and the Department of Veterans Affairs: Boston Scientific Corporation: $17.8 million for medical equipment and supplies; 85 percent of contracts awarded without benefit of competition. Kinetic Concepts Inc.: $12 million, medical equipment and supplies; 28 percent noncompetitively awarded. CB Richard Ellis: The Blum-controlled international real estate firm holds congressionally funded contracts to lease office space to the Department of Veterans Affairs. It also is involved in redeveloping military bases turned over to the private sector. You would think that, considering all the money Feinstein's family has pocketed by waging global warfare while ignoring the plight of wounded American soldiers, she would show a smidgeon of shame and resign from the entire Senate, not just a subcommittee. Conversely, you'd think she might stick around MILCON to try and fix the medical-care disaster she helped to engineer for the vets who were suckered into fighting her and Bush's panoply of unjust wars
Why are there no-bid government contracts for feeding the troops, driving oil trucks and securing oil fields? Aren't the food service, trucking and security industries pretty competitive? .

What do you think of Sarah Palin's idea to put the federal government's "checkbook" online for everyone to see? I think it's a great idea. The only problem is that Senator Obama and Republican Senator Tom Coburn have already sponsored and passed a law that did that 2 years ago. In June, as he was wrapping up the Democratic presidential nomination, Obama and Coburn introduced new Senate legislation to expand the information available online to include details on earmarks, competitive bidding, criminal activities, audit disputes and other government information. Among the co-sponsors of the original bill: Sen. John McCain http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/09/18/palins-transparency-proposal-already-exists-in-dc/
Best Mexican League options for Deportivo La Coruna? http://es.eurosport.yahoo.com/09012008/47/liga-lotina-entiende-cuestionado.html As we all know Depor needs reinforcements badly. Coloccini has been pathetic all season long and he is in negotiations with Fenerbace... also its pretty sad that Guardado (a winger) is the team's leading scorer.. and that most of his impecabble crossed end up in the stands... so it is clear that Depor needs to defenders & forwards. The problem is that they consider $3MM euros too much to pay for their current situation. According to the article they have a list of 25 players - none based in La Liga - that they are trying to negotiate (obviously trying to get the best value for the Euro)... but they don't want to leak names to avoid competitive bidding situations. This smells to me that they might be considering Mexico based players. What player in Mexica have enough quality... but yet are underrated enought to fit the profile? Maza perhaps? (Depor already beat PSV to the punch once)
What gives with 0bama's appointees? Let’s see now, in the first two months since the election we have: a President-elect we know almost nothing about. The only President in history that we will not be able to visit his birthplace because we don’t know where it is. He has appointed a Secretary of Treasury who didn’t pay $34,000 taxes owed from 2001 until just before his appointment and had employed an illegal immigrant for domestic work. He has appointed a Secretary of Commerce who has already had to withdraw because of a federal investigation into corrupt practices. He has appointed a White House Homeland Security adviser and deputy National Security Adviser for counterterrorism who headed up the company responsible for the passport breach at the state department and gave us the faulty pre-war intelligence that took us into IRAQ. He was chastised by Senate Intelligence Committee members for choosing someone who is not an intelligence professional to head the Central Intelligence Agency. He has appointed as Secretary of Education a one-time pro-probasketball player who lead the third largest public school system in the country where employees skirted competitive bidding rules to buy 30 cappuccino/espresso machines for $67,000; where student athlete’s grades were boosted, then, after transcripts were issued for college admission offices, the grades were changed back; a system with one of the worst ratings in our country with only a 52% graduation rate when the Economic Policy Institute researchers estimate slightly more than 80% of students in our country receive a high school diploma. Has appointed as Secretary for Homeland Security the Arizona governor about whom Michael Lacey, a Phoenix journalist wrote …”Sorry Service in Arizona Makes Her a Terrible Choice for Homeland Security Secretary” http://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/2008-11-27/news/janet-napolitano-s-sorry-service-in-arizona-makes-her-a-terrible-choice-for-homeland-security-secretary/1 I could go on and on and on and on……………………… Not to mention the problems with his pick for his chief of staff and the governor of his own state over his Senate replacement. More than sixty percent of the people, most of our college and university professionals, and almost the entire mainstream media think he’s the greatest thing since sliced bread. What are they seeing that I’m not seeing?

As we near the end of bush's term, the depth of his deception becomes obvious. Were the Democrats right... about the two rotten oilmen bush and cheney who conned the nation and occupied the White House? http://rawstory.com/news/2008/Kucinich_We_went_to_war_for_0626.html "In March of 2001, when the Bush Administration began to have secret meetings with oil company executives from Exxon, Shell and BP, spreading maps of Iraq oil fields before them, the price of oil was $23.96 per barrel. Then there were 63 companies in 30 countries, other than the US, competing for oil contracts with Iraq," the Ohio Democrat said during a speech on the House floor. "Today the price of oil is $135.59 per barrel, the US Army is occupying Iraq and the first Iraq oil contracts will go, without competitive bidding to, surprise, (among a very few others) Exxon, Shell and BP."
Did you know that 50% of Americans working in Iraq are private contractors? Many of these contractors are doing the work that normally would be accomplished by our armed services. These companies (haliburton, blackwater, etc) are being paid for by our taxes, and the contracts have been awarded with non-competitive bids (ie. corporations do not have to compete on a cost basis for the job). Do you think this is cost effective or is it more expensive? According to this site their numbers exceed those of american troops. So if anything 50% is an underestimate. http://www.corpwatch.org/article.php?id=14554

What does this mean MONTROSE — JetAway Aviation has placed a lien, amount unknown, against property it claims to own in Montrose. If JetAway Aviation defaults on repaying its lender, the public trustee of Montrose County can be directed to sell the property — meaning members of the Girdner family could be first in line for any of those benefits, a deed of trust filed Dec. 20 indicated. JetAway, a limited liability company, along with another LLC, One Creative Place, executed a deed of trust that identified its lenders as Paul and Michael Girdner of Boise, Idaho. Michael Girdner also signed as the borrower, on behalf of both LLCs, which is not unheard of, a local escrow agent told the Daily Press. The notarized document certifies that Girdner is a “manager or managing member of JetAway Aviation, LLC,” and he would therefore have the power to act on behalf of the company. Advertisement JetAway CEO Stephen Stuhmer did respond to a request for comment. JetAway, located at 1 Creative Place adjacent to the Montrose Regional Airport, is locked in a heated and expensive legal battle over Montrose County’s decision to award a competitive bid for fixed-base operations at the airport to another company. The county and JetAway will head to court in May after Federal Aviation Administration-sponsored mediation terminated. The successful FBO bidder, Black Canyon Jet Center, also succeeded in having JetAway held in contempt over the advertising of fuel sales, which court orders barred JetAway from doing. Paul Girdner testified at the November contempt hearing that he pays the company’s bills. Testimony indicated he was a financial backer. The Daily Press showed the deed of trust to its attorney, who explained how such deeds operate. David Masters said a deed of trust, similar to a mortgage, uses property as collateral to secure financing. In a deed of trust, the borrower transfers the property to the public trustee to be held in trust, subject to the terms of the deed. The Dec. 20 deed places its property in trust with Montrose County Treasurer Rosemary Murphy, who can be called upon to sell it if terms are not met and a demand for sale is made
Do you get really competitive on Ebay? and bid for something u like till u get it no matter how much it ends up costing?
Would you support these laws???? 1) A law that says that all federal govt and state and local govt contracts were people are hired to do work on behalf of the american people must be done by american workers...and every effort must be made to make sure a competitive bid process is attempted amongst american companies hiring american workers. Foreign contracts can only be given ...as long as no american company steps forward to claim to be able to do the job. This would eliminate such things as the contracting and outsourcing of crucial military equipment such as fighter jets, cargo planes, tanks, and other matters crucial for national defense as well as the outsourcing of passport services, the selling of ports to foreign companies etc..... People talk about patriotism when it comes to warfare, but I think this kind of stuff is just as patriotic. 2) This law would ban lobbysts from playing such an active role in the campaigns of politicians. YOu cant be a lobbysts for a big time lobby firm and be a member of a presidential candidate's campaign staff for example. This gives the impression that they are in cohoots with the politician and he will owe them huge favors later. Its really a form of bribery.
