As a Texas Teacher, can I get a Government discount at hotels?

I was told that as a teacher you could get a government discount at different places.

1. Best Western offers a discount to government employees. However, it looks as if you have to be a teacher at university level to qualify. Info: http://www.bestwestern.com/programs/govt.asp
2. It never hurts to ask. Often times I just simply ask if the rate they just gave me is indeed the best rate that they can offer. Often times they will knock a few bucks off. It also helps to use Internet searches before hand. At one hotel in Philadelphia the desk clerk smiled and said to go over to the open computer and book my room. 5 minutes saved $50 per night.
