Can an commercial airline pilot get discount or free tickets for his/her family and friends?

- His family flys free, and he gets buddy passes for friends
- yes
- Usually, the answer is yes. But I think, it also depends on the airline.
- Yes, they do get discount. My friend is a pilot for Emirates Airlines and I go to International places for 65%-85% discount.
- It depends on the company and which union the pilot belongs to. For example, pilots at the major US airlines can fly on any of the other majors. Southwest is the exception. They don't belong to the same union, if they even have a union. So SWA pilots can't fly free on Delta for example.
- Yes, at my airline, my spouse and dependant children and my parents get to fly non-rev which is basically free with the exception of taxes... Since I have neither a spouse nor dependant children, I get to chose one friend as a travel companion... he gets the same non-rev benifits that I do with the exception that he must travel with me, not alone... Also, every year I get a couple buddy passes, they are basically, non-rev tickets that I can give to anyone, as long as they fly with me... I personally can fly jumpseat on any airline that is CASS certified and that has room for me...
