Do airlines discount last minute tickets?

I need to buy a ticket to go to Orlando, Florida, from New Jersey on Saturday, 2/16 and return either late Sunday night or early Monday Morning. The airfares are very expensive right now so I just can't do it. I live within 1 hour of two major airports and one regional one. I was wondering if airlines will slash prices of a ticket within a few hours of a flight to fill the plane if it is empty? I have the flexibility to fly any time that day. Any websites? Thanks!

  1. Typically, airlines do not discount their flights at the last minute -- even if there are empty seats. You might be able to find a package that will get you cheaper airfare at a site such as lastminute.com, but that will also involve the purchase of a hotel room or a car rental in conjunction with the plane ticket.

  3. Most airlines do not give discounts for last minute flying but many websites can give you discounts. Try travelzoo.com Also do not leave it to the last minute because airplane tickets get sold very quickly especially to popular places like Orlando. Since you live in New Jersey Airport Newark is not that expensive!
  4. Prices actually go up, the closer you are to departure.
  5. United and others do disount tickets at the last minute, (well one week in advance) and the days of travel offerd are Sat thru Mon. Have a great Flight? good luck SC
  6. Depending on how many seats are available, discounts are available right up to departure. However, keep in mind that airlines will keep a block of seats for day of travel purchase at a much higher rate.If there are extra seats beyond that block, then they will be discounted.
  7. try spiritair.com. What's your budget anyway?
