How can I get discount golf rates for Hawaii in October? Luana Hills, Mauna Kea and Mauna Lani courses.?

1. Don't play in the morning. Most courses will reduce their rates after 2 p.m. I was in Hawaii about 9 years ago and when making tee times asked if they had discounted rates after 1 p.m. I got to play Kapalua Plantation Course for $65 (where the PGA plays the Mercedes event) and Kaanapali (where the senior PGA used to have an event) for about $55. I wasn't staying on either property, so this was just a discounted rate for the average Joe Schmoe trying to get a tee time. If you wait even later (say, tee off around 4 p.m. to finish by dusk) you might even get cheaper rates than that.
2. Golf with a kama`aina. He or she will get resident rates which are lower than resort rates. And you may make a good friend who will show you Hawaii and Hawaiiana.
