Auction Etiquette?
During a live auction, what should an auctioneer do if he/she announces the opening bid for an item and no-one bids?
Public Comments
- Wait for the preset time limit, and if no one bids, "pass" on the item, and go on to the next one.
- The auctioeer asks for bids at the starting price several times. If no one bids he usually moves on to the next item up for auction. Some auctioneers will lower the starting price if he/she has that authority. D.
- When an article is put up for auction If the item has a reserve price, the auctioneer should state that price or higher as the opening bid. With no takers on the opening bid,the auctioneer can lower the bid Once the article has reached the reserve price It should be called 3times at this bid. Still no bidders the item will be passed in
