How are new construction real estate agents paid? Only comission or salary too?

I am currently working as a real estate agent for a nationwide company, Century 21. We are relocating and I am considering working in new construction because there is tons of new construction in the city where we're moving. It seems like the agents sit all day in the office waiting for clients. They can't go out and door knock or send mailers etc, as I do now as an agent. How do they ensure they get paid? What if no clients come in and they really can't do anything proactive to get more clients. I have an interview soon so I'll get more definite answers about pay, but I was just wondering and considering all my options so I can have a job lined up when we move. Thank you!

  1. Different builders have different policies. Check with each one and don't assume they are all the same. You may also be able to work out a deal that is different from their normal policy. Check also into their restrictions on doing your own advertising to drive customers to you instead of your coworkers if there is a commission or bonus structure. I'd be interested in hearing what you learn and where your learn it. Good luck!
