What degree is best for Commercial Real Estate work?
I'm currently enrolled for a Business/managment degree. I'm think I want to work my way up in the commercial Real Estate Industry as it really interest me and i'm good at selling. Should i get a degree in Marketing or Management? and how can I start making my way up in a company

- 90 degrees vertical
- It is better to get a degree in economics or finance since theoretical knowledge of the markets would serve you better than selling technique which you said you already have. Try to be an appraiser, a mortgage broker, or a real estate broker. An answerer mentioned that there is no need to be a broker, agent, etc., first because they are different animals. Thinking of it in this one way is a simpleton's point of view. Getting into those positions allows you to build contacts and relationships before you obtain your degree. It can take time and you have to do it before you begin your career in order to get ahead.
- Get a degree in Finance or Economics as a prior responder suggested. Also, some schools offer degrees in Real Estate... If you want to be a commercial broker, no need to be a residential agent or mortgage broker first....although some of the knowledge is transferable, there such different animals it won't make much difference.
- There are several schools that offer degrees in Real estate. If you plan do do Commercial, a degree can be very helpful. I would recommend visiting the MIT website and review the School of Real Estate. Commercial RE isn't just marketing and sales. It's very heavy on math, etc.
- Several schools around the country offer Master's degree in Real Estate
- Commercial is generally about finance. Once you finish your degree, get your CCIM. You start making your way up by selling, and selling alot. Commercial is tough because it can be so long between paychecks, but when you get one - YOWZAH!
