When you bid on Ebay is it better to bid on the item when you see it or wait until the last hour?

I think it is best when you see it because it kind of scares off the rest that don't really want it but when you bid at the end the prices seems lower. What do you think?

1. Wait until the last hour. This is when the bidding gets crazy and earlier bids are often knocked out of the running.
2. I usually wait until the last minute because someone will see that there's not a lot of time left and they know that they will win it because no one would bother making another bid. Isn't it pretty obvious?
