Is online bidding safe?

1) They ask for credit card number in advance. Does this pose any risk once i give it to them? 2) Are the goods(especially mobiles and other electronic gadgets) reliable?

  1. depends on the website, and which credit card processor they are using. I would not use unknown websites for bidding. Make sure they have security badges
  2. no it is not safe we are not in a situation to believe any body [ in certain situations they grab bucks from our card with out our knowledge even after transaction ] if we find that with in a week they say you can take action on them -other major problem is if site acquire a private ssl certificate - some scammers may try to take advantage - so it is risky if online bidding is very must - then after transaction you have to change password etc as soon as possible.
  3. It depends on the reputation of the website itself. eBay should be relatively safe.
  4. If you mean biding as in Ebay then i've found it safe, You need to give details so that an account can be set up with paypal, this is an online bank and only money you've recieved goes into it not into your real account. If you're seriously worried then get in touch with the site you're going to use and email them a question most site have FAQ. As i've said i've never encountered any problems and there are thousands of people buying and selling on sites. We wouldn't do it if it wasn't safe. Buying mobile phones is probably not the wisest thing to do although i did but an mp3/mp4 player from ebay and thats still working perfectly. I have bought watches and clothes but i also sell items which can be addictive!!!!
  5. It's only safe if they use a secure plan like PayPal. Ebay uses it. It still is not 100% safe.
