what are some effective ways to advertise a construction business?
I own a small business that offers finishing basements, remodleing kitchens, and bathrooms, additions, decks, and wet bars. Would flyers and post cards be the way to go. Are ther web sites where I would be abe to submit bids on certain contracts?

- the best way is references if you dont have any the phone book is great and cheap also the yellow pages flyers and posters could be costly if they wont cost you much use them
- Local News paper, Realistate magazines, signage in front of projects with completed before and after pictures. Your church news letter, Your cult news letter.lol What you want to do is get to the people who are actually prospective customers going to hire you loose flyer's have tendency to end up in the trash. Magnets are good, as well.
- Reference is he best way, since you need to trust who comes to your house/business. The chamber of commerce is a very good source too, some advertise for free and they have regular meetings, very good to meet people and introduce your company.
- All those things you listed in your question is a start. Try building a website! - Start out by doing flyers yourself. Hire someone else to make them if you can afford them, as you'll increase your rate of return, which means less walking. After you've landed enough jobs and made enough money, hire someone else to distribute them for you. Don't waste your time trying to build up your own crew, it's not worth it. Make sure that they have good auditing, such as pictures, GPS, and such. If you make it to the next level, hire a marketing person and start canvassing the areas you're working in instead of just using flyers. You can also look into networking with other companies. An example of this would be to get in with a fence company and build decks for their clients. Et cetera. I'm sure there's plenty of websites, you could just googl.. uh.. yahoo for them. However, you'll just be another contractor among all the other guys on those sites. Doesn't mean it's not worth it, since it requires little effort, I just wouldn't depend on it.
