Who are these losers on Ebay bidding $2 for a $300 item?

I see this all the time. Someone puts in a bid for 1/10 the average value of an item. Of course, they always get outbid, but why waste your time? Do they actually win these items? If my $300 item went for $1, I'd probably trash my Ebay account before I'd lose $299. Are they counting on some fluke where the seller miscategorized the item?

  1. Even if they had bid 30 dollars, it'll only post the minimum required to be the current top bidder. I once put up a printer/scanner/fax that ended on a holiday. Only one person bid on it, so i had to sell it for a buck. Those "losers" want to win big. People are always looking for deals. Ask yourself, if you could have bought the last thing you paid good money for at 10% of the normal price, would you think yourself a loser or a winner? I think you'd be a winner.
  2. If even one of fifty low bids pan out then it is worth it. Think about it you bid $12 on a $300 item & win it. How happy would you be. If you are a seller and trash your account it still does not stop you from your legal obligations. While it is a fluke if/when someone wins what's the harm in bidding? 3. It's insanely stupid to bid an item up high, long before the end of the sale, because that guarantees it's going to go up, up, up by the time the sale ends. That's one reason. The other reason is, sometimes you CAN get things for ridiculously cheap. I got a motion picture camera lens for $167, that is worth well over $1200 for instance. But I would not have been able to afford anywhere near that. You just never know what other people are going to bid, so sometimes you lose, and sometimes you win, when you bid small like that. And the 3rd reason is, even if I'm gonna bid high, near close of the auction, I just want to get my bid in there, so ebay will keep emailing me when other people bid, as a reminder, etc. So I may slip in there at the last few seconds to bid my highest amount. But if I do that up front, I am sure to lose, because others will have all that time to outbid me.
