How long should I wait before bidding on ebay?

If I want to win an item on ebay but someone else has already bid on it, how long should I wait until I bid on it? What is the best way to win?

2. Have you ever noticed how many times you bid on something only to have someone bid within seconds of the auction ending? Anyone who really wants to win an auction uses a sniping service. You can search for one on Yahoo. The sniping service places your bid for you just before the auction ends. Now, people will say sniping gives you nothing that ebay cant give you through it's automatic rebidding. What it really does is keep bidding from getting into a frenzy. It essentially makes the auction a blind auction and it takes the emotion out of the process. All it takes is for one goof to decide that he wants to get into a bidding war to drive up the price of an item beyond your limit. Keep these people in a false sense of security and let a service place your max bid for you at the end of the auction.
