How does Ebay bidding work?

ok I have always bought from ebay through "Buy this item right now" but never through bidding. So how does it work? And like say the item is worth $100 but the highest bid is only $50, does that mean after the bidding period ends, that person who has the $50 bid won and only has to pay $50?

  1. Yes, whatever the ending bid is THAT is how much the person gets to pay. Its very good benefit. It could be half he price than if you buy it brand new. Or it could be brand new.
  2. Yes in that case they paid only 50$. Unless you see a "reserve price not reached" warning in blue. You would have been able to bid 100$ and ebay automatically bids for up UP to 100$
  3. whatever the bid is, you have to bid higher than that. whoever wins the bid... or who ever offers the most money, is the one who "wins" the item.
  4. You bid up to the maximum amount you would be willing to pay for the item. Other people do the same. At the end of the auction, the person who has the highest bid is the winner. And yes, if an auction ends and the highest bid is only $50, then the seller will sell the item to that buyer for $50. What an item is "worth" is whatever somebody is willing to pay for it -- so in this case, the item would be worth $50. If the seller thinks the item should sell for a certain minimum amount, he can set what's called a reserve price. Bids that are below the reserve price will not be accepted.
  5. yup you first start with a starting price so if its ex. $25. and it says but it now $50 then if you put $27 and ur the only bid then you would buy it for $27 but if someone else comes and puts a higher bid than you ex. $29 then they would get the item if the time runs out or if they buy it now then they keep the money and you can outbid them too if they outbid you before and so on so on until times runs out
  6. the amount you type in is the maximum you would pay. But the price you pay is the price that the person second highest bidder bidded. So let's say the toaster is worth $100. You put a bid of $75. And the second highest bidder puts a bid of $50. Then you win and you pay $51. <-- this number varies a little
