why do you have to fasten your seat-belts after you have touched down and you are just rolling to the gate?

- The most dangerous part of an airplane trip is on the ground.
- Take off and landing are the most dangerous parts of flying. Notice your able to take it off while in flight (although your supposed to wear it while sitting in case you hit an air pocket).
- The plane can still make movements sudden enough to cause people to fall. While that's not a concern if you're sitting, people may assume that if they are allowed to remove their seatbelt, then it would be ok for them to stand.
- As Dougdoug indicated, it's largly to stop people getting out of their seats until the aircraft has stopped
- For the same reason you wear a seatbelt while driving in an automobile --- something could go wrong and throw you into the dashboard, window, seat in front of you, or out the window. The plane may be on the ground but it is still going faster than your average freeway commuter!
- Aircraft brakes are quite astounding. Remember, an aircraft does not need reverse thrusters, they can stop the craft with all the moveables deployed and good old fashioned brakes. Now when the aircraft is taxiing at about 25mph, if the pilot has to hit those brakes, the craft will stop almost immediately, the nose will dip, and you WILL hit the seat in front unless you are belted up. If you are standing, you would be lying down several feet forward of where you were.
- Colisions happen on the ground, just like a car accident... also, pilots sometimes have to nail the brakes hard, it would be very uncomforable to be standing when the pilot hits the brakes... given that you may no longer be standing... Know that it is not an airline thing, but an FAA regulation that all passengers have their seatbelt fastened when on an active taxiway...
- You should already have your seat-belt on before landing. You keep it on in case the pilot has to stand on the brakes for some reason.
- Have you ever drove through a mall parking lot. It`s kind of like the same . Accident waiting to happen
- I actually saw an example of why you should keep your seat belt on during arrival at a gate in St. Louis. The flight attendant told everyone to keep their seat belt on until the pilot said it was okay to unstrap (routine, of course). We stopped short of the gate and quite a few people began unbuckling their seat belts and standing. Those foolish people got quite a shock when the pilot goosed his engine to move the last 30 or 40 feet to the gate and then slammed his brakes on. Several people fell. Too bad for those morons.
- Actually, the most dangerous part of a flight is in fact takeoff. The seatbelts on the taxiway is for safety, just in case. More of a liability thing really.
- because when you stop it could jar you and cause you to fall out of your seat.
