problems with 1991 Jetta 8V, power steering misaligned?
maybe someone knows why. I recently changed my water pump in my 1991 Jetta 8v. when I went to reinstall the belts, the water pump pulley and the power steering pulley hit each other with the old belt. I can only figure that either there was a shim, and its gone. Or the belt is the wrong size. I just bought this car it's my first VW. the water pump is the correct one the pulleys on crank water and a/c all line up right. its the outer belt only. Im not sure whats wrong with it, anyone? old belt was a Gates 7290.

- Looking at a factory manual, I see the W/P on the inner side of the P/S pump. I put a pulley on upside down one time and had the same problem on the same car.I think you need to flip the water pump pulley over and things will make sense.Good luck.
- Is this the same belt you took off? if yes then you ether have a pulley up-side-down or yes you dropped a spacer. sometimes you'll have one to three spacers behind the power steering pump, one for each bolt. Look there are there somewhere, Under the car? hung up on the engine block somewhere? Good Luck!
