How to get rid of the gas/oil-like smell on a leather belt?

I bought a new belt and it has the gas/oil-like smell that really bothers me. Someone has suggested me to wipe the belt with baby oil. Do you have any suggestions?

1. Go buy a little can of saddle wax, it will kill that nasty smell, and make the belt more supple.
