transferring gas from one lawn mower to another?
hi! i've got 2 riding lawn mowers. one works great, and the other's belt has just broken. well the broken one has a full tank of gas, and that's all the gas i have right now...i don't wanna buy any more yet, unless i have to. so i'm wondering (and i know there's a way) how do i get the gas from the broken lawn mower out so that i can put it into the working one?? thanks so much in advance!!

- Syphon the gas from one lawn tractor, and put it in the other.
- In case you don't know how, here is How To Syphon: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siphon
- You can siphon the gas either by doing it the old fashioned way by putting the end of a small piece of hose in the full tank then sucking on the other end to create a vacuum which will "vacuum the gas out of the full tank and put it into the empty tank". Or there are hand held siphon pumps you can buy that let you hand pump the gas so you don't have to take the chance of swallowing any gas. Or there are electric siphon pumps you can buy that you just plug in and the pump does all the work for you. The other alternative is to physically remove the full tank and pour it's contents into the empty tank. GOOD LUCK!!
- A cheep way without getting sick from inhaling gasoline fumes? An old turkey baster you dont use. Or, just unhook the fuel line to a container below the chassis and let it drain, altho you might lose a lil bit of fuel that way. Im a firm believer in having backup lawntractors heck one time out of the 6 i have that mow ( rest are in repair limbo) - only one was working( due to the rest needing maintenence).
- Some lawnmowers have the tubing coming from the bottom of the gas tank using barametric pressure and gravity to move it to the carborator. Odds are you can find the end of the tubing where it meets the carb and disconnect it. You then have gas dumping everwhere if you don't have a can ready.
- Like the last two said, unhook the fuel line, I prefer to do so at the carb, unless the tank has a shutoff on the fuel line. You may need a vice grips or lineman's pliers to remove a hose clip on the fuel line, when it is off, slide off the fuel line and be prepared to catch the gas in a container. Then jsut transfer to the other tank.
