why is advised against to put oil on v-belts?

- Because if you do, then they will slip, and the engine won't run right or at all
- The belt will then slip on the pulley. Then the accessories will not be powered the way they are supose to. rd
- IT MAKES THEM SLIP BAD ,NOT DO THERE JOB.
- That will make them slip and cause things to go wrong like the alternater worn charge the battery right, because the belt is slipping, also when the oil drys it can case the belt to form cracks.
- Belt will slip. If it's squeaking, tighten whatever pulley that is loose. If it's a serpentine belt, there should be an automatic tensioner pulley. Spring might be shot. Or try belt dressing on the belt. (I assume you are asking this because the belt is chirping). Or replace the belt...
- Not only will the belt slip, the oil will degrade the belt 10 times faster. They were never meant to have anything put on them. I test squeaky belts with water (if they become quiet, tighten or replace them)
- 1. It doesn't fix the real problem 2. The oil destroys the belt over time. Other than that, no reason.
- oil will cause the belt to swell and break over time.also will cause slipping of accessories. leading to other problems as well
