how is the market for sports cards and collectibles?

I have an opportunity to start a card shop and want to seek wise counsel from anyone who might have some insider information.

1. I have have a very large collection of baseball cards, but I have not collected anything in the last few years. In Utah, where I live, there is no demand for baseball cards. I would not suggest opening a card shop, they are just not a popular collectable right now. Perhaps you could get the cards and simply sell them on ebay. That way you won't have to worry about the overhead of rent, utilities, wages, etc. Good Luck!
2. Collectibles are all about fads - there is no intrinsic value in a trading card or a car, as there is in a bar of gold. What's hot today, is cold tomorrow - and dead inventory.
