How do I get into coaching kids?

I am not new to coaching. I have coached student/adults throughout college (Basketball, Softball, Mens and Womens Football, Soccer). Now that I am out of college and live in the Dallas area, I want to get back into coaching. Kids are so much fun to coach because they have high learning curve and they know to have fun. I am willing to coach anything. From swimming to football to soccer and so on. The thing is that I am not a parent and most of the coaches I have talked has a kid on the team. And I don't have a direct connection to the team. What I plan to do is volunteer on a team for a year or two and get some experience under my belt and then try to get a team to coach. Any advice would be great. Note: Have a full time job (engineer); Live in the Dallas, TX area (Plano);

  1. call the boys/girls club, or the ymca, or apply at your local school district, I know our boys club is always looking for coaches. You have to pass a background check.
  2. local schools here are in desperate need of qualified coaches. also the local governments/towns have their own leagues, some churches here also have leagues. ADVERTISE!!! coach....needs team
  3. GO TO CHURCH AND GET INVOLVED WITH THE YOUTH THERE YOU MAY THINK ABOUT DOING MENTORING ALSO WE NEED MORE MALE ROLE MODELS IF NEITHER ONE OF THEM WORK GO TO THE LOCAL PLYING FIELDS AND APPROACH SOME COACHES TO SEE IF THEY CAN USE YOUR ASSISTANCE.
  4. Hey, I would suggest a local YMCA. As a former professional coach I was very welcomed at the Y to coach and enjoy the fun of the parents and kids in a non-competitive atmosphere (although we have some competitive teams) All and All it is fun.
