Where is the BEST place to find discounted airfare?

- I recently did price search for a flight and found Orbitz.com had the best deals.
- i found that if you go to priceline .com you can name your own price!!! i just bought a round-trip ticket form Dayton, Ohio to Las Vegas, Nevada for only $38.15...... i seriously said $1.00 and they accepted it!!!! after the fees and taxes were applied the total of the whole trip was only $38.15!!! the only problem with naming your own price is that it picks the time of day you leave and your airline. so check it out but be careful and make sure you know the guidelines cause the tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable!!!!!
- I agree with Ohiostat...Priceline is good place to go. Also check out farecast.com . They actually email you when fares change. I just got back from San Diego...travel date was May 13 - May 18 and looking on individual airline websites the tickets ranged from $370 - $396. I used farecast.com and flew on American for $195...for the dates I wanted. Farecast gives you predictions on if the cheapest flight will increase or decrease in a week. It lists all of the carriers on one page. You can also try kayak.com, sidestep.com, and mobissimo.com. Oh, and I think there's a site called cheaptickets.com Other than that you just have to keep checking the individual airlines for good deals. I went to Miami for $176 on Continental Airlines May 4- May 11. I used continental's website. I began my search for those tickets in December and it was $416...the price didn't fall til around late March early April. Good luck with finding cheap tickets!!!
- I just booked a flight to Ft Meyers. I looked at a few well known travel sites decided that Delta was my best choice for fight availability. Then just to see I went to Delta's site. It was $10.00 cheaper! So my advice is to check at 3 to 5 different travel sites. Then see what the airline itself offers. I'm not sure if this is true with the travel sites, but with Delta I was able to pick out what seat assignment was also. I'm sure that is true with all of the major airlines.

- Orbitz can be a good place to find cheap airfares, but the same airfares found there are available directly through the respective airline's websites, without the additional service fee that Orbitz charges. It is a way to compare fares, but one is better off using that information to buy directly. farecompare.com is my preferred site, but it can be more time consuming than Orbitz or Travelocity. Most of these sites do not include fares from airlines such as Jet Blue and Southwest. These are not always cheaper than the major airlines, but deserve a seperate look if so inclined. For international flights, I like CheapTickets.com
