  1. my style Jido Kwan it's 10th degree
  2. Once you earn a black belt (1st Dan), the rank are 2nd 3rd Dan and so on. The highest degree you can achieve is grand master, which is the martial art or style that you create.
  3. Each system is different, and even different practices withing the system of different schools. Most reputable schools only go up to 10th dan (or ten degrees of black belt) and about the same amount of levels to reach black belt. The best schools usually don't award a Black Belt (or instructor level) until five years of constant training. Psychologist say it takes about nine years to master anything, which is why car insurance goes down once you hit 25yrs. old. Similarly after 5yrs. training and 4yrs. teaching/training you can earn the title master.
  4. I study Judo, we go all the way up to 10th degree black belt.
  5. Every discipline, and often every school within a discipline may have its own ranking system - so there is not one answer to this question. In our association, we establish a 9 x 9 base system i.e. 9 color belt ranks to 1st Degree Black Belt, and 9 black belt ranks from 1 to 9. We do have a 10th Degree Executive Grand Master rank that is awarded to exceptional Grand Masters who have done a significant service for our association over many years. That said, any of our club chief instructors can modify the ranking system as needed by their particular programs with the review of our Instructors Executive Council. I think many traditional arts are similar although I've seen many 15 and 17 color belt systems, especially when the school teaches a lot of kids. It allows them to provide a new belt to the kids more frequently, and this helps to keep them interested and motivated to continue training. 6. Different styles have different degrees. Most kartae schools go to 10th, but a few go to 12th. A red belt is worn by the supreme master.
  7. In Shotokan karate the highest belt attainable is a 10th Dan black belt. The belt awarded for this grade is, however, a red belt which is the same colour as 9th kyu (first grade after white). The significance of the colour being the same is that even after mastering the art the practitioner is still a novice in life's journey and is always learning. In taekwondo there are also 10 degrees of black belt. Once you reach 4th Dan you are awarded the title of Master, while at 7th Dan you become a Grand Master. In both karate and taekwondo it takes between 3 and 3.5 years to get your 1st Dan black belt. After that you have to train for 1 year as a black belt between 1st and 2nd Dan and 2 years between 2nd and 3rd etc. To become a 10th Dan you would have to train for a minimum 48 years.
  8. Most systems have ten kyu's or ranks. 10 BEFOR 1ST Degree usually 10,9,8,7, 3,2,1 Then 1st Dan up to 10th Dan Many variatians of rank and titles along the way also. Training and promotion time vary widely also
  9. it really depends on the style of Karate... Usually it's a 10th dan black belt.. but in some styles like Shorin Ryu I think.. It's a red and white belt that's higher than a black belt.. So, that's how it goes. ^_^
  10. 10th degree is the highest degree of blackbelt and is normaly only given to a founder of a style, also a red belt is given sometimes to a karate master signifying the full circle from beginer to master and back to beginer
  11. Most styles its 10 degree grandmaster. Some now have a Surpreme grandmaster. I'm waiting for someone to invent a surpreme grandmaster with sour cream. Most of these grandmasters these days are commericial schools anyway so why not go with the taco bell ranking system.
  12. Basicly if we talk about the highest degree of any martial arts we will meet two things of degree : 1. Formallity (first dan, second dan, third dan,..... It's up dan) 2. Personality (Politely, Patiently, Normality and Honestly) and the question is "Which one of you?" ( I sugest both)
