- I think you have learned just enough to be confused... As you can tell there is no definite answer to your question. It depends on the style of karate (there are many) and it varies from dojo to dojo. You will also find that there are various degrees of rank in each color depending on the style and dojo. some style like judo also include different color for junior student and senior (adult) students.

- Yep, JW Bulldog is right! However, depending on the style of karate (mine is wado-ryu) here goes: white beginner yellow 8th kyu orange 7th kyu green 6th kyu blue 5th kyu purple 4th kyu brown 3rd kyu brown 2nd kyu brown 1st kyu black 1st dan etc.

- They vary from Karate style. The three things that are all common though is White, brown and Black in all of them. Others will have from yellow, blue, orange, green, purple, and kyu's (stripes) within those belts too. So to get the exact one you need ask your Sensei.
