Girls - How old should a high school girl be to wear stockings and a garter belt?

I have 16 year old younger sister in high school and she wants me to give her one of my garter belts and some stockings. She says all her friends are wearing them to the prom, and she wants to too. I guess the other girls have "borrowed" them fron their mothers or older sisters, but my mother is in her 50's and not into lingerie anymore. I have my own apartment, and my sister is relying more and more on me. Is 16 old enough. I guess I was wearing them at 16, but it seems different when it's your little sister. What you think?

3. I don't think it is appropriate for a 16yr old. Besides, most girls don't wear hose to prom, so it must mean she just wants the garter belt, and a special someone to see it. Don't let her get away with it.

5. I have a friend that absolutely hates pantyhose, so any time she has to wear something, it's stockings and a garter belt. When our grandmothers were young, stockings and garter belts were all there were, and I think they started wearing them around 16 or 17. I guess it really depends on her motives.

12. Things are a little different when it comes to younger siblings. I have a younger sister as well, and I don't think I would be comfortable with her wearing a garter belt and stockings to a high school prom (she's graduated now though). When I went to prom many of the girls wore just garters, but not garter belts. And I know how much of a turn on garter belts and stockings are for guys. If you're as protective of your little sister as I am, you probably don't want her turning on every guy at her prom, at least not all of those immature high schoolers.
13. She is definitely old enough. I can't believe some of the answers you got. Who says "hose" anymore, sounds like my Grandma! We call everything stockings now. And if you go out and spend $150.00 on a prom dress, why wouldn't you wear stockings or hold-ups or something. Pantyhose are kind of old fashioned, so most of the girls in my age group wear hold-ups, and stockings and a garter belt for real dressy occasions, like a prom or date.
14. 16 is plenty old. I started wearing them at 15 because they so hot. nobody my age wears panthhose we all wear holdups or garterbelt stockings to dress up and you always dress up for a prom

16. I think 16 is fine especially now. I think after the bare legged fad last year, pantyhose are now out and stockings are now in. The older women still divide into two camps, pantyhose or bare legs. I think the younger girls first stockings were probably hold ups, so its logical the next step would be a garterbelt and stockings for a dressy date. Pantyhose seem to have disappeared from the mix for the 14 to 24 year olds. I'm 25 and from the pantyhose era, but quickly converting.

My mom let me have my first garterbelt for my prom 3 years ago cuz all us girls wanted to wear them. the stockngs are nicer and they make you feel real elegant. now i'm 17 and this year is my senior prom, and i'll be wearing a vintage dress and seamed stockings and garterbelt. That makes me 15 when i got my first garterbelt and i'm none the worse for it. Give her one, it will make her prom special

19. She's plenty old. I would say 13 or 14 would be OK. There are so many high school girls doing it bare ass in the woods at 13 and 14, I think if she wants to wear a garter belt for herself, or her boy friend, she is way ahead of the crowd. Don't worry so much. If she's having sex or going to, she will do it with or without your garter belt.
