Belt Auction

Is tightening belts in my 98 nissan pathfinder seomthing i can do alone or do i have to get professionals?

Well, My belts squeal for a second on a cold start and stops immediately. Also, I just had brand new belts put in about a month ago. People told me all I have to do was to tighten the belts just a little bit. Is it something I can do alone with simple tools or do I need to take it to a shop?

  1. Not, as hard as it sounds, if tightening the belts is DEFINANTELY all you need to do.
  2. The car might think your nearly going to crash so it tightens it up or you just need to adjust the size of the seatbelt.
  3. With some mechanical skill... it is easy. Simply look at the setup, find out what is used (that moves) to tighten the belts. Then its a matter of loosening and tightening bolts. Note: If you just had the belts changed a month ago... the mechanic shop you used should inspect it. They should repair your vehicle... no charge... if they messed up the install. Their should be no reason you should need to tighten the belts after a month.
  4. It very easy if you've been around car repair for a while. You'll need some metric wrenches. I would suggest a Chilton or Haynes book if you don't know the first thing about it. They are worth their money but are general in nature. You can also go here for $25 a year. I did this for my Subie and it is very model specific. http://www.alldata.com/products/diy/index.html
