Where can I find information on a specific south asian antique?

I have a ceramic bowl with a lid that I would like to know the history of. It is hand painted, with pictures of what I consider to be really ugly, what I think to be chinese, men, with mean faces. The marking on the bottom is in a type of chinese or maybe japanese(or other south east asian) style of writing. Please help me figure out where this antique came from.

3. You need to repost the question with a photo of the bowl and the mark on the bottom. The reign mark should be simple to identify. The men are probably gods. I can probably tell you more when you repost.
