What should I say to motivate passengers in my car to wear seat belts?

Without causing a big scene? (I don't want to say something like this car isn't moving unless everybody has their seat belts on.) In general, male passengers tend to refuse to put seat belts on.

if you get pulled over they pay the ticket and they cant ride with you anymore. if you continue to let them ride make them pay everytime the wheels hit the road. that might work
Why not? You're the one who gets the ticket, so you SHOULD care. Ask them every time, politely:will you put your seat belt on?
If you have an accident and your passengers are injured or killed, they (or their family) could sue you for gross negligence for driving without them buckled in. Therefore, you are NOT causing a big scene by telling them they must wear seat belts in your car. If they refuse, then you stay parked until they buckle up or they get out. And if they unbuckle while you are driving, refuse to ever let them in your car again. If they insist on being childish, treat them like children!
show them a video that shows crash scenes and victims who dont wear them
Just tell them to buckle up when they get in. And if they give you crap about it, tell them that you are on your 2nd strike and you can't afford to get another ticket.
I wouldn't drive without peopel wearing seatbelts. It's for your safety as much as theirs. Tell them you dont want their big dead carcass flying into you in case of an accident.

in california they get the ticket... but I say click it or walk. no hard feelings, I just don't want my family to get sued if we are in a accident and you go through the windshield.
YOu just tell them that the car won't move until all the seatbelts are on. Or, have them sign a waiver saying that they will pay for any ticket you get for having passengers not in seat belts, or that no one from their surviving family will sue you if they are hurt or killed in an accident while not wearing seat belts. You SHOULD make an issue of it. You are responsible for their safety in your car. You are the one who will pay the consequences.
well i dont know how to motivate your passengers...but i would say ..........get out of the car ! or buckle up its the law.
Be honest. I make everyone wear their seatbelts and besides can you afford a ticket for each person each time you drive. Probably not. If your male passanger refuses than just remember that next time and don't offer to take him anywhere with you, it's childish for them to refuse and shows a serious lack of good manners.

Just tell them that you obey the laws and if they want to ride in your car they must buckle up or else they can drive themselves. Also if you were in an accident and they were thrown they could injure someone else besides themselves. Buckle up its the law and it saves lives!!
I generally refuse to take the car out of park until everyone is buckled in. Or, if the person is sitting next to you in the passenger's seat, hit him in the chest (I don't recommend doing this to girls)..I used to do it to my brother...when he'd ask why I'd tell him that if he had his seatbelt on I wouldn't have done it, and that the dash/windshield would hurt a lot more if we happened to be in an accident.
Things to tell front-seat passengers. The airbag can kill you if your not wearing your belt, that's why it is a supplemental restraint system. Things to tell rear-seat passengers: you'll look good when your only partially ejected from the car and the vehicle is laying on top of you! Stupidity isn't illegal, but it can kill you. Some insurance policies don't cover your injuries if you are unbelted. Good luck with the guys.
Do me and yourself a favor please put your seat belt on. The ticket you safe will be your own. Besides I like men tied up. Work for my lady I always buckle up for her now.

Personally I tell passengers strait up to put it on. But if they want a ticket then let them have one. Just make it a rule for your vehicle. "If you want to ride with me then your going to have to wear your seat belt". If you say that without being snotty then most people will respect the rule. Some won't, but its better then having the guilt of a friend injured or worse because of negligence.
When you all get in the car you should buckle up and wait. They will say, "what are you waiting for?" You'll say, "the car doesn't move until your buckled up." It will work! My car beeps if someone doesn't have a seat belt on. It will beep about every three minutes. So I let my car tell passengers what to do.

Just tell them streight out. I don't make the back seat passangers wear a belt but I always make the front passanger wear it. To people i don't know well i say please put on the seat belt...and they do. to poeple i know i just say buckle up. at first i use to tell them all the time, now they do it with out me asking. TELL THEM..DON'T ASK. I know it feels awkward, but how would it feel if you crashed and the passanger died because he wasn't wearing a seat belt? would you feel awkward talking to their parents after ward? it will be a little hard in the begining, but people will get use to it aftre a while. remember it is your car, if safty matters to you..it should matter to your passangers, if not....they can find another ride.
Say, "you are the only dummy in this car NOT wearing a seatbelt" and (smile)

My solution: "the key won't go in the ignition until everyone is bucked up." if they are in a hurry, they will buckle up. there are also some decent video clips that you may be able to show them, I can remember one that the Army showed me when I was in. it depicted a red expedition(stolen of course) fleeing from the cops, the video was from the helicopter above. about 25 seconds into the clip, a front tire had blown on the truck rolled and rolled over the medium. on the first take, no one saw the person get flung from the truck. the video replayed the last 8 seconds, this time a light oval was over the thief getting thrown from the ford, and landing in the middle lane of the interstate on the other side, then two newer midsized cars hitting his remains. needless to say, I always wear mine, even before I saw that video.
just say:: everyone has to be seat belted or get out i don`t drive if you are not seat belted in ,because my insurance just sent me a notice that ,if i am involved in a accident and everyone is not seat belted in.. i will loose my driving rights , and i`m not going to let that happen so buckle up or get out of my car!!.. i say this to everyone who rides in my car and truck and i don`t start to move until everyone is belted in..
Hate to tell you but if you really want to get them to wear them your going to have to cause a scene, atleast once. If your passengers tend to be the same people then do it once and be serious about it and then they should get the point and wear thier belts everytime in your car. I mean if you get pulled over your getting the fine for them not listening so if you want to save some money make a stand

If they are underage, the police can choose to ticket the driver. Tell them you can't afford the ticket. Other than that, you can tell them you stink as a driver, and you don't want to put another person in the hospital. And I admire your courage. Good luck.
I need $ 1,000.00 cash for each one of you who do not put on their seat belts to pay for my driving ticket. If they do not want to put on their seat belts, they have to ride in the trunk of the car.
Tell the passenger, "hey could you grab that off the floor for me?" When they bend over to pick it up just stab your brakes. The knot on there head will at least give you a good laugh.
