what is the percentage that the realtor need to split with their real estate company?

What if they split the commission 3% with another realator. What would that realtors brokerage firm get? Say ReMax, 21 centry, etc?

  1. There are two separate splits involved with real estate commissions. The first is the agreement between the two agencies involved in the transaction. (commissions are always paid to agencies, and not to the individual agents involved). As an example, if a Century 21 agent sells a ReMax listing, those two agencies will generally have a split agreement, perhaps that ReMax gets 65% of the commission and C21 gets 35% of the commission. Once the commission is divided between the two agencies, then each agency has an agreement with the agent involved, concerning how much of the commission is kept by the agency and how much the agent himself gets. The agreements can be complex.
  2. Each company has it's own policies regarding commissions. In most cases on average, commissions are split 4 ways. Not necessarily equally either. The listing agent could be on a 55/45 split with his broker, and the co op broker and agent might be on 75/25 split. But just to simplify it's split 4 ways when two agents are involved.
  3. I can answer in the Kansas City area. ALL realtors are different and if you're looking for one you just have to go listen to all their different sales pitches.
