Belt Auction

How does the last hour of an ebay bidding auction work?

Can I place a bid with in the last minute? I'd like an experienced Ebay user please.

  1. I like to click on "watch ebay item" and then I go back when there's an hour left before it ends. I like to bid at the last minute so it's harder to get out bidded. But if the person that bidded before you has automated bidding, it can bid you out until you pass there max that they entered with autommated bidding. good luck! =)
  2. It works as all the rest of the time, but there are tricks people use. The important thing to remember is do not get caught up in the bidding. Decide how much you want to pay for that particular item and don't go over it - otherwise you may as well pay for it from a store. Even if you bid in the last second someone may have already placed their higher maximum bid hours or days before, so you don't really gain anything by trying to beat the clock. Some people either sit and keep refreshing the screen down to last minute or so and others use "sniper" software that will automatically bid down to the last seconds before an auction ends - http://www.google.com/search?q=ebay+automatic+bidding+software I collect all sorts of things and I know how much roughly I need to pay for the items and more imporantly, how rare some items are that I collect. The rarer they are the more I'll place in my maximum bid. If someone wants to pay more than I think it's worth then that's up to them. I have to admit though it's a little disappointing to find that I've been outbid seconds before the auction ended, but it's not the end of the world either. Another tip when making your maximum bid is not to use whole numbers of dollars. For example, if you decide your maximum bid for something is $20 then add a few cents to it - for example $20.07. Someone else may be willing to go to $20 but the extra 7c will get you the item. Another tip when looking for stuff on ebay is to search for possible spelling mistakes. For some reason when people use the computer - hopefuly it is just then - their spelling goes to pieces. For example labtop instead of laptop, dimond for diamond and so on. Read how someone lost $ 1/2 million because they couldn't spell - http://dayjobnuker.com/2007/10/19/most-expensive-ebay-misspelling-ever-50300000/
  3. Yes, you can bid at last minute. But since you will not have time to increase your bid, you have to bid your absolute maximum. P.S.: It's not necessary you will have to pay your maximum because eBay's bid proxy system will keep your bid at the lowest level to be enough to win your item (unless someone else placed a bid higher than yours). You can bid at last minute manually or use automatic service which does it for you (bid sniper). The advantage of automatic service is that you don't have to be next to your computer to snipe.
