Where's a Good, Reliable Website for Discount Airline Tickets?

I mean, besides Hotwire, Priceline, Travelocity, Orbitz, CheapTickets, and Expedia. They seem to all have the same prices right now. ($389 or $390 to go to Houston--except Priceline, which wants $410.) And Cheapflights.com doesn't work for me right now either, because they don't have any deals on the days I want to travel.

  1. You are right, there are no cheaper prices and the sites are all the same. Your only bet for a cheap flight is to use Priceline's "bid" system and be flexible with your dates and times. I got some quite cheap tickets this way. You might look into flying into an alternate city (Dallas) and then catching another flight or renting a car. Depends upon how competitive the route it.
  2. No one site will always have the cheapest price--you have to shop around if the best price is really what you're after. On routes that seem to always be the same price, consider alternate airports, and airlines that don't show up on Orbitz, Travelocity, etc.-- such as Southwest Airlines into Houston's Hobby Airport (there are 2 Houston airports). Check them at http://www.iflyswa.com Try your itinerary with http://www.bookingbuddy.com and use HOU as the airport code for Houston. The main airport--Houston Intercontinental--is code IAH. You might find something with Bookingbuddy if you run Kayak, Sidestep, and Mobissimo with it.
  3. I would definitely try Southwest Airlines, depending on where the flyer is coming from. Their fares are not usually included on the major travel sites. If you still hit a dead end, another great tool that not many know about is Farecast. http://www.farecast.com This site shows airfares at what they are currently, but assigns a percentage to the fare based on historically whether the fare has gone up or down. A great way to try and figure out when to book for the best pricing. Booking Buddy - http://www.bookingbuddy.com Searches multiple sites...some that are not included on the sites you mentioned. Also, many times the fares on the individual airlines' Web sites are lower than those on Travelocity/Expedia/etc. Try the individual airlines' sites, especially if the airline has a hub in the originating city of travel. Good luck!
