If I buy a discontinued car, will I have problems getting?

Hi if I buy a car like a Buick or any make/ type of car that was last made in say 05, or even a 99, will I have problems getting/buying new parts for it? Can it get part in like Autozone, discount auto etc. Also are repairs more costly since it's not being made anymore?

  1. Parts and service are readily available and costs no more than a newer car
  2. A car like that would still be relatively new, so parts would be easy to come by at stores like that. And if in doubt the dealer should be able to help you( it will probably cost more though).
  3. Parts will always be available for discontinued models for at least 20 years. Either through the dealer or after market parts stores. The older they get, the more likely the parts will have to be special ordered. But you will able to get them.
  4. You can repair your discontinued car with new parts. The parts and services are available to your discontinued car. There are many automobiles to repair your car.The parts will available at low price than new parts.
  5. You will not have any problems finding parts for any '99 or '05 unless you are considering a Daewoo. Daewoo parts are difficult to find and are way too expensive.
  6. It all depends on the car. If it's a car like a Yugo or some car that came and went in a heartbeat, then yes you are going to have a hard or impossible time in getting parts and for that matter getting them fixed. But if you buy a car like an Oldsmobile for example, you will have an easier time finding parts and getting it fixed for the simple reason these cars will have what we call in the business "sister-cars". The parts are interchangeable with other brands from the manufacturer. The repair cost is the same as fixing a model that is still made. Manufacturers use the same engines in different models or brands they make. The game manufacturers play and people fall for it is to make a so-called new model by changing the sheet metal. The mechanical maybe changed but the frame usually stays the same. Best example is Chrysler, the PT cruiser is a Neon with a different body. The Chevy Cobalt is a Cavalier.
  7. You will have absolutely NO PROBLEM finding parts for the car. Repairs should not be any more than normal. Parts purchased through a dealership would probably be more than those purchased at Autozone, etc but available for many years to come.
