What is so special about Max Lang belts?

A friend of mine was recently trying to describe Max Lang belts to me and I just do not understand why a belt would cost so much. As with all products, (cars, shoes, shirts, ect...) I realize that a different level of quality can demand a higher price, but what is it that makes these belts so much better than other belts to substantiate the prices they charge.
