How does ebay keep sellers from bidding on there own items?

I think that sometimes when I am bidding the seller is the one trying to out bid me. Does ebay have a way to trace this?

  1. It's known as schill bidding when the seller bids against you on an account they own or gets someone else to do it for them. eBay does have a policy against schill bidding. I am fairly sure that eBay could stop you from being able to bid on your own items - that's just a database function, really - nothing much to it if you know databases and eBay will be using a database, you can bet. It's a shame that eBay is making it so that you can't who the other bidders are because if you're really suspicious, you can check into who they are and see if the details seem to match. Anyway, it's more likely that it's just someone else who is equally keen to win the item and you can check up on who people are later when the auction is finished still, I think. Though I haven't been on eBay in a few months.
