Are the Enfield rifles chambered in .308 good rifles?

I don't know much about the Enfield rifles. I am looking at a Ishapore 2A1 Chambered in .308. Just wanting to know if they are good Quality rifle? This is one similar to what http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=115878603I am looking at.

  1. Are you the same guy who's asking all of these questions? Seriously man, I think it'd be a better use of your time to go to a gun forum. Yes, they're great rifles. Made with better metallurgical techniques. However, they're based on the Mark III rifles, and I like the Mark IV. Of course, the Mark III is more complex to make, and possibly superior, I just like the looks of the Mark IV more. Btw the way, your link doesn't work. :P
  2. The change in calibre matters very little. The only concern I have is that I wouldn't really buy an Ishapore, as they are from India and I think (think being key) I heard they were of lower quality than other enfields. I also don't like the flat bottom magazines, but that is just my personal preference.
  3. As long as you have a gunsmith check the head space of the rifle, it should be safe to shoot. Try to find an earlier import Ishapore if you can, some of the late ones are pretty rough.
  4. Excellent rifles.I got mine several years ago,and she's taken thousands of rounds with no problems. As for quality, they are made with better steel than the old British rifles.
