a book that my dad told me about years ago. He read it in the 50s-60s. It took place in England before &during the American War for Independence. There was a boy whose father had died, living with his mother & sister, when a Turkish man moves in next door. He & the boy make friends. The Turkish man has a big bow, & he says to the boy, when you're strong enough to string it you can have it. Eventually he can do it and the bow is his, along with the arrows. He & his family are starving, so he shoots deer in the royal forest. He's caught for poaching & sold as an indentured servant & gets sent to the Colonies. His mother gives him a basket just as leaves on the boat, it has his bow & arrows inside. There's a storm just as they approach land and they're drifting away, boy saves them with his bow and arrows. While he's for auction, a hunchback comes up to him and grabs his arm, the boy yanks it away while the man mutters about how strong he is. There's more, but any help is appreciated!
