Would I be able to sew a leather belt to canvas with a sewing machine?
Trying to make a straight jacket for halloween. would I be able to sew a leather belt to canvas with a sewing machine? or would it be too tough for the machine? Thanks.

- Too tough, unless you get a SUPER heavy-duty needle...
- No dumb-ass. It only can do so much!
- If it is a heavy duty sewing machine and you have the right needle in it you can do it. A regular sewing machine might be able to do it if the leather is really, really thin.
- Unless you've got a very strong machine, it would probably be easier to do it by hand, making holes in the leather first, or take it to a shop which can sew it.
- Bring it to your local shoe repair shop
- You'd have to have a leather machine that can handle a no. 21 needle or bigger.
- Most home sewing machines do not have a long enough stitch length to accommodate leather. I have a couple of machines that would whiz right through it, but the stitches are too close together. Thus, it ends up making perforations in the leather and it will tear. I would just hand sew the leather belt. You can pick up an assorted package of upholstery needles at WalMart for under a couple of bucks.
