How to iron a plaited/braided, genuine leather belt that's curled over?

Hi, I've got a red genuine soft leather belt, which is plaited/braided. As it's a soft belt its sides are curling over so that the belt will no longer sit flat. I've tried to iron it (through a thin piece of fabric) and it kind of makes the belt flat again, but as soon as I wear it it curls over again. Any ideas how to flatten this belt so it stays flat??? Thanks

1. could probably glue (or stitch, whatever) a support material on the inside of the belt.
