Why do you have to replace the V-Belt, tensioner & roller on a Peugeot 206 2002 1.6l?

The fan belt (V-belt) is worn & must be replaced but the dealer says that all 3 items must be replaced & I had a heart attack because at R 2000.00 that's outrageous!! Total service & repair = almost R 8000.00. Why are French cars so expensive to maintain?

1. first never go to a dealer work wrok unless their is no other shop in the state open second you need to replace belts every three or so years if not sooner.... sometimes the tensioner does go bad some times the roller but not likely they all three bad at once... high price yes it is very high so why not call any parts store and ask about what it cost... then call any three shops that are close by and get a price from them and you will find a lot better price .. and truth is its not hard to replace them yourself most likely for about a 100 bucks
2. Unless the tensioner and and roller is bad they don't need replaced. They are just trying trying to run up the bill.
