What is the best way to word our business card?

My husband and I own an auto repair shop. I am re-designing our business cards and want to offer some sort of referral special on the back side. This is what I have come up with so far, but I am not happy with it! Any help would be very much appreciated. Happy customers are the best advertisement! Please pass This card along to someone. When they bring it in: *New customer will receive a special “welcome” discount *Referring customer will receive a special gift! REFERRED BY:_______________________________ Things we can offer the new customer: Discount (10% parts) Free half-hour labor $10 off Free something (coffee card, key chain) Things we can offer the referring customer: Discount (like 10% off parts) Money kick back Free gift (Starbucks card, movie tickets, t-shirt, etc) The general idea is to have our existing customer pass along our card to a new customer. When that new customer comes in they get something special and also we do something special for the referring person. John - Actually, we do send a card for every job. It is a thank you and please let us know if we did not live up to your expectations, etc. The card is used as a coupon on next job. I want something to use up that space on the back side of the business cards! I agree about giving them each something/similar, but it is hard to pick wording for it and also what to give! Sometimes we mail a pair of movie tickets to people when they refer someone! I did try a referral letter, but we got like 2 back with new customers. I like the business cards because they are small and move around easily!! :)

  1. Do not try to do all this on a business card. Include a form letter with every invoice/bill for completed services. Ask them if they are happy with their service. If not, encourage them to call you. If they are, encourage them to recommend a friend. A letter gives you lots of space/words to be nice and make it sound less like begging/bribery and more like a customer service function. Staple 2-3 business cards to the letter. As far as what to give, 20% discount on next service would be nice. Or even better, offer 10% to referrer and 10% to new customer also. They share in benefits so it makes referrals easier, both customers have an incentive to do what you want.
