Belt Auction

What is the best way to sell antiques/collectibles?

E-bay, consult a dealer? I know yard sales are out.

  1. I would suggest e-bay, since you have a larger customer population online, on a popular website that is so well-known it's the butt of many jokes. My mother is into dollhouse miniatures, so at the moment, she is buying furniture kits, bashing (customizing them), then re-selling for a higher price. Most of those she has bought are antiques, not in production, and she bought for anywhere between 20-40 dollars under the market price. E-bay is fairly easy to use and fast. If you can get a free consultation with a dealer regarding the value of your antique, go for it. Also be sure to check the price you plan on selling for against other websites and shops.
  2. see if there is a antique and jewelry auction in your area. I run a flea-market booth sometimes, one day I talked to a man who had a booth, he sold assorted crystal at one of those auctions and makes a fortune, he is retired but probably makes more annually than he did as a professor, you'll have to pay a commission. You could probably sell on E-bay and have a larger audience, but I've heard from some that it is a hassle, some people get the high bid and then don't pay plus you will have to ship each item.
  3. I used to ebay, but quit after getting ripped off a few times. I like to check ads in the paper. I've gone, by appointment only, to view and purchase estate sale items. It removes any "yard sale" mentality. Prices are fair, but not cheap.
  4. I would spend some time arriving at a legitimate price and then check with some antique dealers to see if they sell consignments. There are many antique malls that will rent space to you. A quick turnover will probably cost you money.
  5. Well If you want to sell your items then you should probably find an antique and collectable ouction or show. On your computer type in local antique/collectable shows.
