Bushmaster Carbon AR-15 pistol for home defense?

I am very interested in buying this gun. Does anybody know if the .223 or 5.56 round provides enough stopping power? Here is the gun I want to buy: http://gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=122825612 Here is the other picture of a different one that I'm interested in: http://gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=122722403

  1. yes
  2. The .223 provides plenty of stopping power, especially if you are going to use it at close range, i.e in your house. Only problem, the projectile may go through the walls and strike someone on the other side.
  3. The 5.56mm has plenty of stopping power. The prices on those Bushmasters are outrageous. I bought an AR pistol made on a stag arms lower 4 months ago for 650 bucks, in excellent condition. IMHO I'd wait till this Obama craziness is over to buy one. Grab you a nice Mossberg 500 or Rem 870 for home defense the prices on those have been largely unaffected by the Obama scare.
  4. It would definitely do a number on a perp but in all honestly for the price there's a whole lot out there that's a fraction of the price.I'd be a little leary of shooting rifle cartridges in a house for the simple idea that they pack enough umph to go thru walls an could injure another in the household. One idea to factor in stand in your house an see whats the farthest you can visually see I used my range finder on this I have a 1650 sq foot house my longest shooting lane from down hall to doorway 37' .My 12 gauge shotgun with heavy shot is more than able to do the job without the worry of the round blasting thru multiple walls. One slide of the action will usually put said perp on notice.Slap a flashlight on it with a Surefire strobe I guaranteee you'll still be less then half the price.
  5. ya duh if the army uses it then its good enough
  6. Very poor choice for home defense due to the penetration factor.
  7. Get yourself a 1911 or a shorty 12 Ga with low brass buckshot. When you are trying to stop a intruder; you won't have time to give serious consideration to your backstop. The last thing you want to do is shoot up the neighbor's house too. And just for reference; 5.56 has good stopping power at close range due to the fragmentation. If you are just dead set on a 5.56; here's my pick. http://www.kel-tec-cnc.com/plr16.htm
