Is this a good quality rifle?
How powerful is the .308 caliber from this 16" barrel, compared to a 7.62X39? http://gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=122538795

- The 308 is Superior in power, performance, and accuracy at greater distances.*
- i dont know but it looks peng!
- the 308 is the best at going through brush and pretty accurate at longer ranges.
- I was unable to open the gunbroker site to look a the rifle in question but can help with the ballistics. The 7.62x39 normally carries a 123gr projectile that leaves the muzzle at around 2300fps with around 1500ft/lbs or energy. The .308win usually carries a 150-180gr projectile at around 2800fps with energy levels double that of the 7.62x39. The .308 is a much more versitile and effective cartridge.
- That rifle is an alright quality rifle..... There are better rifles out there - but as far as high power semi-auto's go the price is real tempting..... The .308 is way more powerful than the 7.62X39MM.... Compare these 2 ballistics charts and you will see .308 way outperforms the 7.62x39MM..... .308..... http://www.shootingtimes.com/ballistics/308_winchester.html 7.62x39MM..... http://www.shootingtimes.com/ballistics/762_39mm_russian.html If you want this rifle for a lot of informal target shooting I would avoid it..... The ammo is a little more expensive, the .308 cartridge has more potential that this rifle can realize, its real loud, has a bit of objectionable muzzle blast and for me -- Hi power inexpensive semi-auto's just give me the creeps - I am not saying this rifle is unreliable but that's a lot of power (over 50000 PSI chamber pressure) for a cheap rifle...... If you want it as a collectors item, to take out and run a couple of small boxes of ammo thru it now and then - then buy it---- If you plan on putting thousands of rounds thru it over the year then pass -- get a better gun...... - Well - not necessarily better - Just a lower power rifle.... Get a rifle chambered in 7.62X39MM or .223..... Consider one of these..... http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=122303627 http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=122574951 http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=122398411
- Don't buy that rifle until you've found a reliable source for the magazines. Since it is a obscure combination of caliber and cartridge the magazine will be rare and expensive.
