Belt Auction

Is there anything I can put on the belts in my car to make them stop squeaking?

As soon as I turn my A/C on, my car starts to make a very loud squeaking noise, but as soon as I turn the A/C off, it stops. I just recently got two belts replaced so I feel that the belt itself should be fine. Is there anything like WD40 or something like that, that I can spray on the belts to make them stop squeaking?

  1. Yes, you can buy it in a spray can at any auto store..... lok for it, or ask the guy behind the counter.
  2. you to your local auto parts store and pick up a can of belt dressing. i have a 93 Alfa Romeo, and it had the exact smae problem. i got a can of belt dressing, sprayed it on, and it work beautifully. no more squaking noise. though, your noise might not be a belt at all, it could be a bearing. good luck John
  3. Yes....It's called.. "BELT DRESSING"...and it's made by STP. Just spray it on and done! ***
  4. a wrench. don't use the spray crap, its addictive. tighten the belts to proper specs. if they still squeek it may be time fof having your compressor checked.a/c compressors do sieze up a bit.
  5. 'Belt dressing spray' is the generic term but most good car spares shops have it and it's widely used in engineering machine shops. A specialist pulley belt suppliers would have it if there is one near you, and it won't be as expensive as from a car outlet. WD40 etc are lubricants and will make the problem worse. If it has been slipping for a while it may have burned a flat spot into it's form and will need to be replaced.
  6. it's not a Nissan by any chance , belt dressing , spray it on but you"ll have to do it at least once a week it gets tired
  7. The best thing I have used is a product called DoorEaze. It is a stick lubricant kind of like a grease pencil. Just rub it on the belt and the squeeking should stop. The sprays I have tried do not work nearly as well. Have the head pressure checked on the A.C system. Excessive head pressure can be caused by overcharging the system or a blockage and will cause the compressor to drag causing belt slippage. Hope this helps.
