- In the absence of a gun, a security guard can use a hunting knife to perform his duties to protect people from harm in case of an attack from terrorists or malefactors.
- I don't know what state you are in, but in Texas this would be the case. If he had a large hunting knife he was in violation of the Penal Code. This would be a charge of unlawfully carrying a weapon. I'm sure it would be the same in many other states as well. In Texas, any knife with a blade over 5 1/2" is a prohibited weapon under chapter 46 of the Penal Code. This person could be arrested for this offense. I am sure that many states would probably have a similar law on the books. Also: A security guard CANNOT use a knife in absence of a gun to perform his duties. If he stabbed someone that would be a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Not all security officers are authorized to carry guns. For a security officer to carry a gun he/she must be a commissioned security officer who has had additional firearms training. If a security officer is carrying a gun and does not have his commission card with him, that too, would be a charge of unlawfully carrying a weapon.
- Here in my state, no. Security guards don't carry armed weapons. Security guards are NOT cops!
