What do you think of the Dems Earmark Reform?

Earmarks are proposed to be: 1) Public - put on the website and invovled in hearings 2) Competitive Bidding 3) Must have 'legitimate' purpose or Obama will work to eliminate it 4) The name and amount of the sponser must be identified in the earmark He did this in reaction to charges that the bill from last year had too many earmarks in it. Why didn't the Republicans reform earmarks if they are so against them now?

The earmarks shouldn't have been there in the first place. Oh, just in the nick of time, the Democrats are going to reform them. Ridiculous. Hey, when is Obama going to go through the budget "line by line" as he said he would? After he's spent all the money?

I don't think this is the time to be throwing stones at the other side...or they at us. I like the new measures and I hope he will implement them. It's about time, but earmarks are, frankly, a TINY part of the budget.
The earmarks are still in the Bill (that he signed in secret), I don't see how anything has CHANGEd. 1) Public - put on the website and invovled in hearings OK, please provide a link to the site 2) Competitive Bidding Government projects have always been subject to competitive bidding (look in the Commerce Business Daily) - nothing new here. 3) Must have 'legitimate' purpose or Obama will work to eliminate it Anyone receiving the money for a road project, bridge, stem cell study, etc can prove that their intentions are legitimate, it's a question of priorities, is this the best use of the money and Obama working to eliminate something does not mean it will go away. 4) The name and amount of the sponser must be identified in the earmark The Senate didn't even have the guts to take a vote that we would know how people voted yesterday - same old same old.
Ok why didn't the liberals feform earmarks then? If Obammy is so against them why didn't he veto the bill and send it back with a note calling for no earmarks? Oh thats right the majority of the retarded earmarks are for Dem's. That makes it okay then I guess?

lip service, like it's always been regardless of the party in power. what is most interesting to me is that obama had his name removed from any earmark he sponsored or co-sponsored in this bill while he was a senator. now that's transparency and change we can believe in.

Does anyone really believe either Democrats or Republicans will eliminate earmarks, pork, and corrupt politics? No. We need a third party, one that is run by the people for the people. The Democrats and Republicans are for special interest by special interest. Once elected, all they care about is the special interest groups that give them millions of dollars so they can make campaign promises to the people they will never live up to.
